And so it begins
When you hear coding or programming, do you automatically think of Hackers? Matrix? maybe Snowden? No? Well, I used to...
For the longest time to me, coding was something only very few people are cut out for, it was this picture of someone sitting in front of 6 monitors, typing 600 wpm, flying through hundreds of weird shortcuts and numbers (that make no sense to anyone but them), in this matrix green on black background... totally Sci-fi, and only after my 25th birthday, 10 years of customer service, absolutely unhappy, unsure of what I want in life and more importantly what I want to do for the rest of it, I discovered that there are millions of job and career opportunities, all asking for this one thing - Programmers.
I opened the first job description on indeed and under qualifications I saw a long list of different shortcuts like CSS, Java, Python, Ruby, and C++, so I did the one reasonable thing that every normal human being would do, I hit the X and pretended like I never even clicked on it in the first place. On my way to work the next morning, I started some sort of documentary to listen to on Youtube. 20 min into my drive the podcast was over and the next one started, to my surprise it was one about Cybersecurity, Computer science, and Software engineering. As I was listening to the podcast, I started to think this is actually quite interesting, so I spend most of that day during drives listening to more and more of those Podcasts. Not even 24h later my ADHD Hyperfocus was fully engaged, I had probably downloaded every possible app, and harassed my brother into handing over his old Predator gaming laptop that probably weighs 60LBS, but that's where my problem started - What do I want to learn? Easy! Everything!
I wanted to know everything, and I think honestly the realization of this being probably close to impossible to achieve hasn't set in yet, I still want to learn EVERYTHING! So here we are, weeks later, multiple languages deep, working on changing my career after falling in love with the one thing I would have never considered doing... Coding. Turns out my personality is perfect for this career, and it definitely isn't all Snowden or Matrix (which turns out to be sushi recipes!!! Who knew!).
