The Power Of Discipline And Consistency In Business.
Every successful business entails discipline and consistency. Discipline and consistency go hand-in-hand. Without discipline, it's hard to be consistent in your actions and without consistency, the mental muscle of discipline will weaken over time.
Discipline in business means any intended training or control gained that produces a particular pattern of behavior or orders to obey. Just like a muscle, discipline can be trained. The more you work on it, the stronger it becomes.
Consistency in business can be described as the dedication to your goal and staying focused on the things and activities to achieve your goals.
How Do You Develop The Power Of Discipline And Consistency In Business?
As a business owner, discipline and consistency begins with you. Your approach to consistency sets the tone for the whole business which your team members should naturally follow.
HAVE A VISION.
"Don't sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them" Madam C.J. Walker
The foremost thing any business needs to be consistent with, is their vision. Without a cohesive idea of what you're trying to accomplish, your company's action won't add up to much. Therefore, vision is an important part of your business strategy.
MAKE A PLAN.
It is difficult to be consistent if you don't know what you're supposed to do. A plan is your print for your business practices and focus areas. These plans don't have to be complicated. It just has to provide a course of action for you to follow.
"If you don't build your dream, someone else will hire you to help them build theirs" Dhirubhai Ambani.
Imagine how painful that can be. It's like life robbing your failure all over your face.
STAY ON THE PLAN.
This is where many businesses fail. They get all excited about their business and then start winging it without any real focus which means they drift off the plan.
Consistency requires you to have the discipline to stay on your plan even when it is hard or feels wrong. So commit to following your plan of action for a predetermined period.
"Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing. That's the law of consistency. It doesn't matter how talented you are. It doesn't matter how many opportunities you receive. If you want to grow, consistency is key." John Maxwell.
Now that's the power of consistency.
The power of discipline is the guarantee that you will eventually overcome all your obstacles and discomfort. It helps you stay focused on reaching your goal, gives you the gumption to stick with difficult tasks.
"Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment" Jim Rohn.
CHALLENGES OF DEVELOPING THE POWER OF DISCIPLINE AND CONSISTENCY.
The major challenge people have is FEAR.
The fear of failing. The fear of change. The fear of taking risks. The fear of uncertainty. The fear of not being enough. The fear of cutting down others. The fear of rejection and a lot more.
Fear can inhibit and also motivate. Rather than simply stopping people from being entrepreneurial, the fear of failure can also motivate greater striving for success.
"What would you do if you weren't afraid?" Michal Oshman
Well, these fears can be overcome by,
- Identifying your fears. What exactly are you afraid of?
- Realizing it’s not all about you.
- Determining the worst case scenario.
- Focusing on your why.
- Taking action.
- Finding your support system.
And finally, - Learning to accept and embrace your fears.
