The Beginning of my Technical Writing Journey

I started writing at a very young age, about the age of 9. I began with creative writing as well as songwriting. Researching and writing has always been a part of me.

I transitioned into tech in February 2022 with Frontend Development though I later switched to Data Analysis in May.

Technical writing is the breakdown of a complex subject that requires an explanation for easy understanding by an audience.

Getting to know about a part of tech that didn't involve coding was interesting to me as I discovered Technical Writing.

I have experience as a content writer as I have worked with an organization to create articles. I was excited to take my skills in writing to tech.

I took courses on technical writing to learn about what it is and educate myself. I took the Introduction to Technical Writing Certification Course on AptLearn which introduced me to the basics of technical writing.

I learnt about the needed skills for technical writing, the principles, purpose and process of technical writing. I also learnt how to edit and design a document.

I took the 2021 Hashnode Technical Writing Boot Camp on YouTube and it was really insightful. I learnt how to get started and be consistent with writing. I learnt about building a personal brand effectively which was really amazing.

I also learnt about the importance of storytelling and the use of social media in technical writing. As Edidiong Asikpo reminded us severally during the boot camp: 'You only learn to write by writing'.

I also read the Technical Writing for Beginners ebook by Bonnie. He told his story on how he quit school to chase a career in tech. From his book, I learnt to not give up.

He talked about why it is necessary to have a little knowledge in tech weather coding or non coding as it will help in technical writing.

I love to learn new things and challenge myself. With technical writing, I can educate myself on various topics as well as reach out to an audience and meet their expectations. I find that interesting. Technical writing is writing for purpose.

Nothing is more creative… not destructive… than a mind with purpose. -Dan Brown, Inferno
