PREFACE👋

Hello!! Everybody out there [passionate coders, developers, enthusiasts, strivers, achievers, leaders, etc.]. Thank you🎀 for taking the time and reading the stuff📰. My name is Harshini 👩‍🦰 , I love to build apps using tech tools, explore different kinda opportunities, and hunger for knowledge which motivates and pushes me forward to work on things. (short n cool right✅)

⚠ENGINEERING :

SHORT DESCRIPTION📒

Times when I failed to get a seat in IITs and compromised myself to get into a tier-3 college in atmost boring department of CSE [feeling before knowing nothing about it] because I was most curious about Chemical Engineering at that time. Since there were only 3 subjects taught in my Secondary High school M.P.C[Maths, Physics, Chemistry] and 2 languages[don't know what for] and taught nothing familiar with the technology. I finally thought-"It's OK!!, whatever happened is happened let's face a new phase in life" and accepted my father's choice of getting into CSE.

Day01 ➡ till date:

Started my journey in 2019, with no amusement in life as an engineer in a tier-3 college, but to my astonishment, I got a few friends[introvert issues] on the first day itself and introduced many things into my life in just below 6 months. Somehow got the motivation and bought interest and focused on career building from the second semester. Covid-19 hits so hard this time.

No matter what, this time I decided to crack GATE and enter into IITs & with a strong desire I gathered resources, prepared a roadmap, took guidance from lecturers[no use], so started self-preparation online using geeks for geeks, started watching videos on youtube from neso academy, gatesmashers, etc., literally a ton of videos I used to watch in a day and started taking notes and practiced rigorously by managing both online classes and self-preparation. It became so overwhelming.

"AND SOON I REALISED, WITHOUT A PROPER GUIDANCE, COMPANIONSHIP AND A MENTOR it's HARD TO CRACK - DESPITE OF HAVING A BURNING DESIRE."

I meant it. Because there were no people and faculty to clear my doubts literally I approached many, but everything goes in vain.

CHALLENGES faced in 2022:📈

By this, the time flew away, and gave up all my efforts towards GATE and itself. By the time of realization, I was in the 3rd year of my B.Tech and lost 2 years by remaining incognito with no exposure to software tools and technology. In my 5th semester, we were called back to college after covid. Many courses were added to the curriculum, I had no idea what I am doing in life and what was happening, I had no fear of exams because as most Engineering students follow this practice of "one-night batting before exam day", but the only worry was to plan what next.? either GRE preparation for pursuing a master's degree abroad or getting placement in college.

Again, I started searching from two free resources available - google and youtube. I thought these were the best gift for the students but NO, I got a realization later by exploring many platforms. I will be sharing those in my next blog📝 please stay tuned. Let's continue with this...

Finally, I decided to get a placement in college because I need to pay for my needs after graduation, and I can't entirely depend on my parents every time for money.

I was in my pre-final year and knows only some technologies like C, Java, HTML, CSS, and a few data structures from the core subjects. So, began a hunt for placement by exploring some free resources shared on youtube channels like Kunal Kushwaha, take U forward, Lovebabbar, Fraz, etc. because I was short on time. I was left with just 3 months before placement so prepared a to-do list and started learning and practicing. But things were not handy and faced many hurdles like dealing with procrastination, usage of social media, and consistency.,these 3 pillars play a major role similar to the 3 pillars in OOPS😄.

Learned things:

The above-mentioned channels, I started following two of the, from where I learned many things within a short period. Like from one channel I got to know about remote jobs, Contributions to Open-source, what are communities., Learning in public, learning by doing, etc., from another channel I learned and improved my problem-solving skills and approach to a problem, new tricks, etc.,

I got a job in MNC🥳 by the 6th semester, which is easy just practicing for a few days can take you there.

But the thing is I didn't stop learning instead started creating a passion for learning new technologies and explored many things as follows:

  • Created LinkedIn profile

  • Created portfolio on GitHub

  • Learned about Git, Networking, Linux commands

  • Implementation of data structures.

  • Also Docker, YAML files, XML, JSON

Currently, I am in 7th semester but I didn't quit learning and exploring different opportunities despite having a job[not a big deal but just having backup].

  • Started an Udemy Course on Web Development.

  • Learned HTML, CSS, JS, jQuery, Node.js & React.js

  • Created some cool projects and uploaded them on Github.

  • Gained some exposure to databases like MySQL, and MongoDB.

  • Solving questions on Leetcode.

  • Learned even Machine Learning, just to do my minor project but I even loved it!

But after exposure to many things in just one year, the goal just took a U-turn to get a remote job.

In addition to this, I was just left with one more semester to get my degree which is quite exciting(30%) and quite disappointing(70%). If the things were familiar in the previous hand along with mentor-ship, with great companions I would have done many things but anyhow I think there is no point-of feeling regret, there is a long way to go. I will just feel happy about the things I have.

CONCLUSION🔥

  1. Write your goals, on paper✍ and start working on them.

  2. Stop✋ procrastinating things, I know it's hard but one must get up from comfort zone, you can see the change.

  3. Discover new things🖋, meet new people🧑, travel✈ somewhere and participate in discussions, events, start writing blogs, and many more.

  4. Everybody has to start somewhere to meet their destination.

OKKK!!!!! I will stop🛑 right here, or else I know you guys might think she has started giving philosophy🙂.

This is my first blog and also my first participation in an event, contributing to #DevRetro2022 I must say and hope it may reach at least a few people.

If you guys really loved it or hated it(no issues✌, easy-peasy), let me know just by liking, commenting, and sharing if possible(not mandatory)..!!!

In the end, I would like to thank🤝 my beloved parents, friends along with two virtual mentors:

Kunal Kushwaha & Raj-Vikramaditya(striver).

Happy Learning☺
