Vocalize: Indian languages Campaign! by Google Crowdsource
Take part in the #GoogleCrowdsource exciting Vocalize: Indian languages Campaign to help improve Google’s Speech Recognition Technology. What is Vocalize Campaign?
The main objective of this campaign is to improve Google’s speech recognition and language understanding models, to facilitate daily tasks. For example, you can use your voice to quickly write, edit, and send messages using Voice Typing Assistant in Messages, Gmail, and more. This campaign opens the door for all native speakers to contribute to the Audio Validation task of the Google Crowdsource app, to help improve Google’s Speech Recognition Technology for your local language. Your contributions will benefit Google services and products for users worldwide, including Maps, Translate, Assistant, and accessibility services.
Who can participate?
- Android users (since this task is available only on the Crowdsource app on the Play Store)
- Anyone who speaks and understands Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, or English (India) language.
- Anyone who is at least 18 years of age
How to participate?
- Sign up for the campaign by filling out this form — bit.ly/GCS-Vocalize-India (without editing the pre-filled name in the link at the end), you are in.
- Contribute to the Audio Validation task on the Crowdsource app across a period of one month (November 1, 2022, to November 30, 2022)
How to contribute?
Step 1: Open Audio Validation Task.
Step 2: Read the instructions and click on continue.
Step 3: Choose the language you’d like to contribute (Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, or English[India])
Step 4:Listen to a short machine-generated audio clip
Step 5: Use your best judgment to determine if this is how you would pronounce it in the language you are contributing to (Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, or English[India] ) –
- Choose “Yes” — If the pronunciation sounds natural and correct
- Choose “No” — If the pronunciation sounds unnatural or incorrect to you
- Choose “Unsure” — If you’re not familiar with the word or don’t know how to pronounce it
- Choose “Skip” — If you don’t feel confident giving the answer
Each submission will be counted as your Contribution (i.e., 1 Submission = 2 Contributions count). If you’re not sure about any of the phrases/sentence/word — you can skip that using the skip button to avoid spam. Please ignore spelling errors in the prompts (if any)
[Important Note] Please carefully listen to the pronunciation and let us know if it sounds correct — we only want a “Yes” rating if something is truly 100% correct! Your honest and candid responses will help us improve our speech recognition models
Winning Criteria
- The top 5 contributors of each language will receive a surprise from Google Crowdsource, With a minimum of 1000 contributions on the Audio Validation task needed to enter the category within the period Nov 1 to Nov 30.
You’ll get a weekly mail updates on leaderboard, All contributions will be subject to quality checks and the final decision will be made at the direction of the crowdsource team.
Impact of your contributions to the Audio Validation
- Improve TTS — Text-to-speech translations are more likely to be pronounced correctly
- Improve ASR — Google products can use this technology to better interpret and understand user voice commands
- Enable Accessibility — Users with speech impairments can use this technology to help improve language learning and proficiency
- Support Research — If you opt-in to open-sourcing your contributions, your data can benefit the larger research community
