Modem VS Router

A #modem is a device responsible for connecting your devices to the #internet service provider (ISP) and providing the connection to the internet. A router is responsible for connecting your devices to the internet and managing the flow of data between them.

In most home networks, a router and a modem are combined into one device called a modem router or a gateway.

In the case of using them separately, the modem connects to the internet, and the router connects to the modem to provide the network for your devices.

So, to summarize:

- A modem connects your devices to the internet service provider and provides the connection to the internet.

- A router connects your devices to the internet and manages the flow of data between them.

Fun fact: The name Modem comes from the fact that Modems modulate and demodulate signals for communication over a network or the internet (analog to digital & vice versa.)
