Grateful for where I'm at, excited about where I'm going.

A new year comes with new hopes, new opportunities, and new resolutions.

The act of setting new goals offers you hope that this year will be significantly better than the last. However, taking a look back at the year that brought you here is just as significant.

Here are the 8 lessons I have learnt over the last year: (texts in italic are how I'm taking actions towards each lesson)

  1. Although hard work is crucial, you should first have a clear knowledge of what you should be working on.

    • A man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder implying the importance of a goal in one's life. Just getting swayed away with whatever life offers means that you are stuck.

    • I spent some days learning Javascript, some days learning PHP, and some days my interest was peaked by machine learning. This continued for one month.

    • What I needed to learn next was unclear to me. And after a month, I realised I'm not making any progress. Before investing much effort in it, I should first choose which technology I should learn. And I did make a decision, and I'm now making all effort I can to learn it.

  2. Your work and "ME TIME" are both equally crucial. Because spending time doing what you enjoy inspires you to work on your vital tasks as well. It kind of provides you with the energy to manage other tasks that you detest or that you don't like doing but are obliged to do.

    • This is one of my resolutions also: to spend at least 1/2 hour doing things I love the most.
  1. Your FAMILY, PARTNER, and FRIENDS are crucial. Because only they will be there for you in your hour of need to get you back on track.

    • My loved ones were there to support me after I failed the exam I had been taking for the past two years. They gave me love and hope even though I didn't want to talk to anyone at the moment. And it's all because to them that I'm stronger than ever and ready to face even more difficult challenges in the future.
  2. The only thing that will get you where you want to go is your daily ROUTINE, so having a routine is crucial.

    • I make a list of the bare minimum of things I want to accomplish each day. And I make every effort to accomplish all of those goals.

    • I feel more confident that I'm getting a little bit closer to accomplishing my aim of developing consistency and discipline when I complete these minimal targets.

  3. Spend 30 minutes walking and 10 minutes meditating each day to stay healthy. Your emotional and physical HEALTH should always be your top priority.

    • I have completely ignored my health for the past two years. I studied for my exam the entire time. I didn't do anything to energise or extend my body the entire day; I was confined to my books.

    • I quickly realised how crucial it is to take care of your health after my exams were over.

    • As a result, I devote the first few hours after waking up to rejuvenating my body. My health is now my first focus. It's been a month now till I started walking and meditating.

  4. You'll reach the next level of self-discovery by stepping outside of your COMFORT ZONE.

    • I've wanted to start a blog ever since I started reading books, but I never had the guts to do it.

    • I was so hesitant to use my social media accounts to write or publish anything. However, I later came across this phrase "Regret is way more painful than failure".

    • So I decided to follow through on anything I want to achieve because I don't want to look back and regret not even attempting it because I was afraid of what other people would think.

  5. Read, Read, Read. Start with anything you like, be it comic books, fiction, self-help, or anything else. Just get started, and you'll soon find the topics you like to read about.

    • My reading journey started with Harry Potter Books that too in Hindi. I never anticipated falling so deeply in love with reading when I first began, but here I am setting aside a short amount of time each day to read my favourite novels.

  6. Eating at least one meal a day with your family. I promise you won't ever regret deciding to eat with your loved ones rather than in front of a movie.

    • I eat dinner daily with my parents. They continue to wait for me no matter how later I arrive home so that we may all eat dinner together. But I return home early and don't keep them waiting :)

Finally, I want to mention one newsletter that had a significant impact on me in the previous year:

"The Curiosity Chronicle" By Sahil Bloom

His newsletters have been helpful to me in getting to where I'm today. His tips and lessons offered my existing way of thinking a fresh perspective. I appreciate how well-written his newsletters are because I've found many of my questions answered in his newsletters.

I hope you'll get answers to your questions too. Do visit his website to read and know more about The Curiosity Chronicle .
