Neither a Job Skill nor a life skill : Able to work under pressure

So, hi there everyone, hope you all are doing good, well this is not a new thing to talk about, but that also becomes one of the reasons that given how long things have been carried forward from one generation to another, this one is typically not a good thing, and its impact has been increased multifold in present and if we don’t get aware of this now, it will keep on increasing moving forward with time.

So, I guess we all must have gone through a lot of JDs while applying to jobs, even if not, you might see this LINE in many JDs, mostly it’s stated under the requirements / preferred section of a JD
Able to work under pressure

Trust me , I don’t know that who made these JDs, or who reviews these (i am not sure even if they are reviewed or not, as there are a lot of pointless JDs being circulated by the Official handles of the companies )

Because this line “Able to work under pressure ” denotes a lot about the company. A Lot.

Some people mix it with “fast paced work”. Both are kind of different in some ways.

Able to work under pressure” as per English sheerly denotes that pressure will be there. Not just once of course.

We all see these words, pressure, stress, and all, but I haven’t seen much with management on the ability to strategize such tasks and teamwork so that It Becomes a WIN-WIN situation for everyone.

In many cases, the answer is “It came from the upper management , we cannot do anything in this “.

I am sure many people would have listened to this at least during the layoffs.

And when such answers come into play, all the PRESSURE, STRESS comes over DEVs.

Not neglecting, managements, higher managements also have work, tight deadlines,

BUT

What are we doing about it?
I have seen this happening in real time, many times your higher management spent their entire life working like that, and the same things are being passed on to the next Genz.

And RESULT?

Let’s see them actually

As per the data, there has been a 22.4+ % increase in hypertension cases (age group: 18-39) and similarly more numbers of people above those ages.

  • The amount of heart-related diseases is also increased by a good number (NOT at all a good thing).

  • Obesity cases have been increased

  • Type 2 diabetes cases have also increased

Do you know what’s common with all this?

LIFESTYLE
THESE are all LIFESTYLE diseases, and Hypertension is one of the key factor to all these diseases, accompanied by bad eating habits of course.

Eating can be fixed. You need a little discipline towards it. And it can be improved.
But WHY do we tend to ignore the other thing, which has a lot of contribution to your unwell being? Our life relies on it

So, What can be done?

  • Brainstorming ways to fix it (Yes, because there is no single way, ). Because only if we address this, we can fix it, and trust me it’s very much unaddressed which it should not be.

  • Inculcating good practices within the team, A SIMPLE AGILE METHODOLOGY Course ain’t gonna do anything.

We are in a logical domain, how the heck we don’t experiment? instead just follow orders? What kind of engineers are we?

Management needs to understand this. The more happy your employee will be, probably the better quality of work you will be able to get from them.
Devs may develop a new way of working with their team, we see a lot of models waterfall, agile, this that. But it doesn’t have to be that way always. Even Those so-called Industry STANDARD followed methodologies might have flaws, which we just ignore. I don't know why .

Software Development is a crazily interesting domain, and tech involves a lot of curiosity, but if such politics/wrong practices come into the way, then we might not experience the beauty of it.
There is one life, think about whether you want to drive it using pills or with healthy innovations.

And
If you reach this line, it means a lot, that you went through all this data. Gave your precious time to read this.
So, I hope you will help others with good practices.

Thank You, Happy Development!
