7 tips to pass the AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam

Hi! I'm Travers, a software professional excited about cloud technology, open source community and open research.

In this post, I want to break down how I passed the AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam and provide a few tips for like-minded learners.

What is the AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam

  • The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam is an entry-level certification that validates your knowledge of AWS cloud infrastructure and services. This certification is suitable for anyone who is looking to begin a career in the cloud computing industry or wants to validate their foundational knowledge of AWS. In this blog post, we will provide you with tips and resources to help you pass the AWS Cloud Practitioner exam.

    #1 Know the Exam Format

The AWS Cloud Practitioner exam consists of 65 multiple-choice and multiple-response questions that you must complete within 90 minutes. The exam is available in multiple languages and can be taken either in person or online. The exam fee is $100, and you must score at least 700 out of 1000 to pass.

    #2 Understand the Exam Domains

The AWS Cloud Practitioner exam covers four domains:

    • Cloud Concepts (28%) • Security and Compliance (24%) • Technology (36%) • Billing and Pricing (12%)

It is essential to understand each domain and the topics covered under each domain to pass the exam. AWS provides a detailed exam guide that lists all the topics covered under each domain.

    #3 Use AWS Documentation

AWS provides an extensive collection of documentation that covers all the AWS services and features. You can use this documentation to prepare for the exam. I recommended that you read the AWS Whitepapers, AWS FAQs, and AWS Service Limits documentation to get a comprehensive understanding of AWS services.

    #4 Take Practice Exams

Practice exams are an excellent way to prepare for the AWS Cloud Practitioner exam. AWS provides sample questions and a practice exam that you can take to test your knowledge. I used the AWS resources and felt confident taking the exam. There are also several third-party practice exams available online, such as Whizlabs, Udemy, and A Cloud Guru.

    #5 Attend AWS Training

AWS provides instructor-led and self-paced training courses that cover all the AWS services and features. AWS training courses are an excellent way to learn about AWS services and prepare for the AWS Cloud Practitioner exam. You can attend virtual or classroom training, depending on your preference.

To study for the exam, I recommend using a combination of resources such as the official AWS Cloud Practitioner study guide, AWS documentation, and online courses. This approach can help to keep the material fresh. One useful resource is AWS Cloud Quest, which is a gamified learning platform that allows you to earn badges and rewards as you progress through various AWS learning paths! Cloud Quest was probably my favorite study method 💪

    #6 Join AWS Communities

Joining AWS communities is an excellent way to learn from other AWS professionals and get answers to your questions. You can join AWS User Groups, AWS Community Builders, and AWS Heroes. You can also attend AWS events and meetups to connect with other AWS professionals.

I recommend checking out the AWS Power Hour Twitch stream. They provide great tips on study practices and are happy to provide further guidance via LinkedIn.

#7 Review AWS Partner Network (APN) Partners

AWS Partner Network (APN) Partners are AWS-certified professionals and organizations that offer consulting, technical, and managed services to help you design, build, migrate, and manage your AWS infrastructure. Reviewing APN Partners' websites and services can provide you with insights into how AWS services are used in real-world scenarios.

In conclusion, passing the AWS Cloud Practitioner exam requires dedication, commitment, and preparation. By following the tips and resources mentioned in this blog post, you can prepare for the exam and increase your chances of passing. Remember to review the exam guide, understand the exam domains, use AWS documentation, take practice exams, attend AWS training, join AWS communities, and review AWS Partner Network (APN) Partners.

Good luck with your exam preparation!
