Ideation in the real world

Ideation has an important process, and we need to know how it works. Don’t fret, in this guide, we’ll discuss briefly how to inform ideation in your activity.

What is IDEATION?

To me, to Ideate is the process of bringing ideas on a given topic without attempting to judge or evaluate the ideas. It's the formation of concepts. You Ideate with creativity with a goal and focus to give a high-quality design that solves real users’ problems.

If you were given a task to design a website, you can’t just decide and go ahead to design the website without a critique. There has to be a systematic way to approach your daily activities.

What does it look like?

Practically, Ideation is directly associated with a business, startup, or organization that includes, managers, project leads, and low-level employees. And this may be the reason why seminars, brainstorming sessions, and online forums are held. In this case, it's important to ideate to yield successful results for your company as it’s a key component for your success.

You can follow these steps:

You have started to ideate when you identify the problem. For example, take a look at when you go to the mall and find out that the elevator isn’t working, you start thinking of ways to get up to the store, then you think of using the staircase.

Tools for ideation

Ideation is done to bring solutions, and ideas to help the company develop. But along the line also, ideation can be the barricade once it is badly managed. Not enabling people to bring ideas, and contribute to solve problems when they feel inspired to. The goal is to share many ideas not the quality of ideas.

Here are a few steps for ideating practically:

  • Brainstorm

  • Focus on quantity

  • Document your plans

  • Question the obvious

  • Gather diverse teams

  • Evaluate your ideas

Ideation is all about coming up with ideas, while there is no judgment at all.
