What I like about the gov.uk websites

Introduction

There has never been any hardship whenever I used the gov.uk website to access any service. After much thought, I realized it is because of the way the website is designed. The content, design, and accessibility make it easier for people to use the website. Below, I'm going to list down the facts that I like about their websites:

No assumptions

They do not assume their audience level. Anyone can access the UK government site to receive information. A 10-year-old or 50-year-old can easily understand what is written about on their website. You don't have to google any jargon from their site, they are all well-explained.

Preparedness

We all have struggled to use a product at some time or the other because the instructions don't prepare us with the prerequisites. But before you start making any booking on their site, they give you the list of items needed to get started. This saves precious time when the time is ticking to get that important driving slot.

Alternatives

If your online booking doesn't work, they list down other options to access the service. It can be through phone, email, or chatbot. They give the users alternate options and not abandon their booking and try elsewhere.

The Search feature on the UK government site is laudable. If you enter a search term, you get results from all of their services. It makes it easier to accomplish your task in one place.

Accessibility

The website is quick to load and is accessible to everyone. You can change colours, fonts, contrast, and navigate the site using an on-screen keyboard and mouse. You can read the site through the speech recognition software.

Conclusion

I have used government websites in other countries but they never came close to the UK government's sites. As a Technical Writer, I feel their writing style is what I should aim for to become a good writer. Overall, the websites serve their purpose and provide the citizens with a better service.
