Information is essential in today’s society. What do we mean by that? Consumers base their decisions on the information they access on the web. For almost every decision, from ordering a meal to making a considerable investment, users first research the product or service and then take a call on what to do next. Hence, without a website, a business cannot attract an audience and give them information to help them make decisions.

However, things don’t end with having a website. The website must be accessible, user-friendly, and informative. You must thoroughly test the website to provide the best user experience.

Here’s a checklist of web application testing. This checklist includes a list of tests to ensure your web app performs to its best and provides a top-quality user experience.

Web Application Testing Checklist

Functional Testing

Developers run functional tests to check the overall capabilities of the app. Functional testing tests the operational behavior and all the web app’s features to ensure compatibility. It aims to verify your product and ensure its requirements and functionalities work well from the user’s perspective. It does this by checking if your web app has all the functional specifications mentioned in the development documentation. Additionally, it tests every possible user input to help developers build a seamless web app.

Here’s how you can perform Functionality tests:

  • Verify the entire functional requirement list.

  • Understand the requirements

  • The requirements that the users give can help you identify the test input.

  • The test input values can help you calculate the outcomes of your test.

  • Once you’re happy with the outcome, execute the test cases.

Usability Testing

Usability testing involves checking the web app’s elements for user-friendliness. It helps developers run tests on the app’s flow and identify navigation issues that impact user experience. Usability tests ensure the app is easy to use and effective; it roots out errors like weak flow, punctuation, and typos that can reduce website capacity.

Usability tests put the user first and ensure the tests you run on the application are from the user’s perspective. Studying user personas and requirements is essential to ensure a successful usability test.

Interface Testing

Interface testing involves checking the website’s ability to communicate at various interfaces like web servers, applications, and databases. Integration testing involves putting together and then testing the various internal components of the application, making it different from Interface testing. Here is how developers test the multiple interfaces:

Application: Developers send the test requests to the database, and the app must display the result correctly on the client side. If an error occurs, the app will catch it and send it to the admin for fixing.

Web Server: The web server handles all application requests

Database Server: The database server ensures all the sent queries give the correct outcome to the database.

Database Testing

Database testing is essential to ensure the web application performs various functions and stores data correctly. The functions include:

  • Executing queries if any error surfaces during testing.

  • Keeping track of the response time of queries.

  • Accurately reflecting retrieved test data in the web application.

  • Ensuring that any change when updating, deleting, or creating data has no data integrity.

Here’s how you can perform Database tests:

  • You can set up the test environment to test the app.

  • Execute the test by running test cases under the test environment you set up.

  • Check the results and validate the output to ensure the results meet your expectations.

Performance Testing

Performance testing involves testing a web app’s speed, scalability, and stability under various scenarios. Developers run this test to check the app’s performance and see if it can deliver the same efficiency with different user outputs. Performance tests help developers ensure the following:

  • To check if the app’s architecture works seamlessly with heavier loads.

  • Ensure the app’s response time is excellent with every new software version.

  • To identify if the app can deliver optimal performance and handle the maximum load.

Here’s how you can perform Performance tests:

  • First, identify the tools you will need and the test environment.

  • It is essential to define performance criteria.

  • Once you define this, move on to planning and designing tests.

  • Prepare the tools and the test environment.

  • Run the test, resolve any issues and retest.

Compatibility Testing

Compatibility tests ensure the website renders the same way in various browsers and versions. Further, it ensures that your web app runs smoothly and consistently across various browsers on multiple mobile devices and desktops. Since web elements like images, text fields, lists, and buttons change with different OS, cross-platform compatibility tests are essential.

Security Testing

Security tests analyze and report various security aspects of your app. Security testing checks for unauthorized access to pages supposed to be secure and stops unauthorized downloads, and kills automatic sessions after inactivity.

Conclusion

This checklist contains the main tests you need to run to ensure your web application is bug-free. Always remember that running your tests on real devices is essential to get the best results and identify bottlenecks. Testing on a real device cloud will help you analyze how your app would function when released; this is crucial for successful web application testing.
