Day 47: Whiteboard Challenges

Today, I learned about whiteboard challenges. A framework for tackling prompts, mistakes to avoid, common fears to be aware of, what interviewers are looking for, how to stand out, and resources to aid my learning.

This is where you walk through your design process using a whiteboard and marker. The whiteboard challenge allows your interviewer to evaluate your design thinking and ability to collaborate in a short amount of time, usually 30 minutes to an hour - Coursera

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Jumping into solutions too soon

  2. Time management

  3. Not explaining your thought process

Common fears

  1. Fear of the unknown

  2. Fear of public speaking

  3. Fear of messing up

What interviewers are looking for

  1. Problem definition

  2. Solution-finding and idea generation

  3. Interaction design knowledge

  4. Collaboration

How to stand out

  1. Propose unconventional solutions

  2. Great storytelling and communication skills

  3. Look at the problem from multiple lenses
