From Nursing to Software Engineering
I started studying nursing in 2016, and I enjoyed my studies for the first year. I learned a lot about the human body, and I developed a strong understanding of the healthcare system. I also had the opportunity to attend as a nursing assistant in a hospital, which gave me firsthand experience in the healthcare field.
However, after a year, I realized that I was more interested in numbers(yes, math), computers and technology. I had always been interested in how things worked, and I was eager to learn more about software engineering. I was also drawn to the fact that software engineering is a more creative field than nursing. As a nurse, I would be limited by the procedures and protocols that I have to follow. However, as a software engineer, I would have the freedom to be more creative and innovative.
I decided to switch my major to software engineering in 2017, and I have been enjoying my studies ever since. I have learned a lot about programming languages, algorithms, and data structures. I have also had the opportunity to work on several projects, which has given me hands-on experience in software development.
In addition to my coursework, I have also been involved in several extracurricular activities related to software engineering. I am a member of Latinas in Tech, WTM, Mujeres IT, volunteered in tech conferences and I have also participated in several hackathons. These experiences have helped me to network with other software engineers and to learn about new technologies.
I am now almost finished with my software engineering degree, and I am excited to start my career as a software engineer. I believe that my background in nursing will be an asset in my new career. As a nursing student, I developed strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. I am also good at working under pressure and meeting deadlines. These skills will be valuable in this field.
I am confident that I can make a positive impact on the world through my work as a software engineer. I am excited to use my skills to create software that helps people in new and innovative ways.
For example, I am interested in developing software that can help to improve the healthcare system. I believe that software can be used to make healthcare more efficient and more accessible. I am also interested in developing software that can be used to solve social problems. I believe that software can be used to make the world a better place. I can make a difference in the world for the better.
