Learning Go the right way
What went wrong with FreeCodeCamp
The FreeCodeCamp tutorial was going great until I hit a roadblock. A huge one. The video tutorial itself is free but the platform on which the lesson was being conducted worked for 1 module before asking for "MONEY". How dare they lol.
I tried to just perform the tasks on the GoLand IDE and go back to youtube and the coding platform. The whole back and forth method wasn't working.
Look let's be real here. I am not gonna pay for a free tutorial. If I plan to pay then I pay for the paid tutorial. This was a bit wrong on the FCC's part.
Return to Codecademy
I have used Codecademy in the past. Almost like 10 years ago for a Python tutorial. Their method of teaching seems functional to me. I am glad they had a Go Tutorial. Everything is in one single screen. The reading material, the challenge, the source code and the terminal.
Add Spotify to the mix
There is a playlist called "Coding Mode". I played it in the background and ran the Pomodoro timer in the second tab and went through the first module of the tutorial.
It reminds me of the no-tension, chill days of my class 9-10.
Anything to keep me from quiting.
