Why Learn JavaScript?
Before we dive into the how, let's talk about the why. Why should you learn JavaScript? Here are some of the benefits of learning JavaScript:
JavaScript is easy to get started with. You don't need to install anything or set up a complex environment. You can write and run JavaScript code in your browser, using tools like CodePen or JSFiddle.
JavaScript is versatile and flexible. You can use JavaScript for front-end development, back-end development, mobile development, and more. You can also use JavaScript with various frameworks and libraries, such as React, Angular, Vue, Node.js, Express, and [MongoDB].
JavaScript is in high demand. According to the [2022 Stack Overflow Developer Survey], JavaScript is the most commonly used programming language among developers, and also one of the most wanted and loved languages. Learning JavaScript can open up many opportunities for your career and personal projects.
How to Learn JavaScript?
Now that you know why you should learn JavaScript, let's talk about how you can learn it effectively. Here are some steps that I followed when I was learning JavaScript:
Learn the basics. Before you jump into frameworks and libraries, you need to have a solid foundation of the core JavaScript language. You need to understand the syntax, data types, variables, operators, control structures, functions, objects, arrays, loops, events, DOM manipulation, and more. You can learn these topics from various online courses, books, blogs, podcasts, and YouTube channels. Here are some of the resources that I found helpful:
[JavaScript First Steps - Learn web development | MDN]: This is a comprehensive and structured course that covers everything you need to know to become a front-end web developer. You will learn about HTML, CSS
[How to Start Learning JavaScript - freeCodeCamp.org]: This is an article that shows you how to incorporate JavaScript into your HTML code, what simple operations might look like using JavaScript, how to create and execute functions in JavaScript, and how to use your browser's console to test JavaScript in a live environment.
[JavaScript Tutorial for Beginners: Learn JavaScript in 1 Hour [2022]]: This is a YouTube video that teaches you the fundamentals of JavaScript in one hour. You will learn how to write and run JavaScript code, how to use variables, constants, data types, operators, conditional statements, loops, arrays, objects, functions, and more.
Practice what you learn. The best way to learn anything is by doing it. You need to apply what you learn by writing your own code and solving problems. You can practice by doing exercises, quizzes, challenges, projects, or anything that interests you. Here are some of the resources that I used for practicing:
[freeCodeCamp.org]: This is a website that offers free online courses on various topics related to web development, including HTML, CSS
[Codewars]: This is a website that offers coding challenges on various topics and difficulty levels. You can solve problems using JavaScript or other languages and compare your solutions with others.
[JavaScript30]: This is a website that offers 30 projects that you can build with plain JavaScript in 30 days. You can follow along with the videos or try to build them on your own.
Learn from others. Another way to learn is by reading other people's code and seeing how they solve problems or implement features. You can learn from other developers by following them on social media platforms like Twitter or LinkedIn
Conclusion
In this article, I shared some tips and resources that i'm currently using as a beginner in JavaScript. I hope they will help you too. Learning JavaScript can be fun and rewarding, but it also requires patience and practice. Don't give up if you encounter difficulties or frustrations. Keep learning, keep coding, and keep improving.
