Scaling Up : TIIDELab Journey 2.0

I remember writing my first article in my first month at TIIDELab, and it feels like it was just yesterday. How time flies! It's already my second month, and it has really been awesome. "Repetition is the mother of skill", a saying by Tony Robbins, emphasizes the importance of frequent practice and consistency in developing a skill, and that is one of the platforms that TIIDELab provides: the fact that we get to put in the work every day. A lot of things stood out for me this past month, and I'd be glad to share them, such as my experience as Head of House often referred to as H.O.H., the development over time of my Technical skills, and the project assigned to my team.

I was the 7th Head of House in TIIDELab's cohort 5. The Head of House position is a weekly tradition where teams complete a wager task, and the winning team selects a star player as the Head of House. As a team lead of 11, I was comfortable before being in charge of 73 fellows for a week. Initially, I had doubts, but I realized that starting is the first step to getting things done. Ultimately, my tenure as Head of House was considered one of the best, as my partner and I set a new standard and performed well. Apart from core soft skills like communication, empathy, and collaboration, listening to those I lead and thinking creatively stood out to me. These virtues were significant. Challenges included uncertainties when making decisions that must be agreed upon by fellows and program coordinators, managing time, and stress. However, with professional development lessons from Mr. Shams, our coordinator, I tackled them all.

My hard skills development In the first month was focused on basic HTML, CSS, and UI/UX frameworks, then advanced to JavaScript, which Mr. Kenny, our instructor, called "the bedrock of web development." We covered topics such as data types, variables, and functions and completed side projects to apply our knowledge, such as a profile editor, a to-do list, and shopping carts. These projects allowed us to use array methods and basic JavaScript syntax. Overall, it has been an incredible experience, below is an online cart platform made using array methods and JavaScript data types.

All teams were assigned projects to work on and my team is working on a web application for insurance sales management, which is still in progress. We've completed two sprint presentations and finished the research and design phases. However, we faced challenges in reaching our target audience since the platform was not open to the general public. Through determination and extensive research, we overcame these issues and moved on to the design phase, which was less of a struggle due to the UI/UX classes we had in the first month. I'll provide updates on Insure (the name of our project), in my next article.

My second month at TIIDELab has been an incredible journey filled with new challenges and opportunities for growth. From leading as Head of House. to scaling up my technical skills and working on the Insure project, I have gained valuable experience that will undoubtedly serve me well in my future endeavors. As I look forward to the remaining months of the program, I am excited to see what other adventures lie ahead.
