Open Letter to Ali Abdaal on "Fake Work vs Real Work"

Hello world! This is Julio Scarpelini and this is my very first personal Blog Post.

As an entrepreneur, I have to deal with a lot of tasks in my day-to-day work. One of those tasks is to meet like-minded professionals and business leaders who would help my business grow and go to the next level.

In one of these meetings, I met Erik Anderson, an open-source software developer and a great human from Illinois, US. During our conversation, I got an interesting invitation from Erik - to write a guest post for his Blog as a way to start a collaboration. I have to say, I didn't expect such an invitation, but I took it, especially because I'm in the pursuit of becoming a writer, and a content creator like him. Once and for all, I saw it as a good opportunity to start this endeavor.

So here's it. My response to Ali Abdaal's Real Work vs Fake Work Blog post.

Hey Ali, your blog post really resonates with me.
Here are my thoughts on this.

As a business owner, there are so many aspects we have to handle while running a business, like, Project Management, Business Strategy, Operations, Hiring, Interviewing, Networking, Marketing, Sales, Finances, Legal, and so on.

You know, it's super easy to get busy, even getting to the point of not having enough time for your family - especially if you don't have a team or a partner to split tasks, which is true when you're starting something new.

Building a business is hard, but it can be even harder if you do not pay attention to what you're doing, effectively. The type of activities you're most spending time on.

The idea behind Fake Work is so real, that we feel productive and keep ourselves extremely busy while doing things that we shouldn't be doing in the first place.
Writing this text could even be one of those things.

But it feels good, right? So we choose to do those things.

It can be true, but it's also true that what is required to build a great business usually is very tedious and boring work. All that we avoid doing, all the time.
This is the Real Work that we must be aware of. What really is going to generate the necessary outcomes for your business to grow, and keep going.

There are only two conditions for our business: it is growing or dying.

From my perspective, I believe that what may cause this kind of behavior is a mix of lack of awareness, goal setting, planning, and most importantly, a lack of clarity.
What are we really doing? For who? Why are we doing this in the first place?

I also think that working on ourselves first, by better knowing our inner-self can help us to identify the reason we are here. The reason we were born for. Our gift.

Definitely, it's not an easy path, but we can be far more resilient when we are truly connected to something really meaningful and purposeful. We can resist every challenge that we inevitably must face on the entrepreneurial journey.

Thanks for sharing all your content, Ali. It's very insightful and helpful from many different angles.

This is my contribution to this Blog and I hope it will be the first of many.
Thank you very much for the invite, Erik.

Best wishes,
Julio Scarpelini
