Hacktoberfest is the annual month-long celebration of open-source software and collaboration. During October, developers from around the world come together to contribute to our open-source project, improve their coding skills, and foster a sense of community.

Whether you're taking your first steps into the open-source universe or you're a seasoned developer, whether you prefer the elegance of no-code or the depth of full-stack engineering - there's a place for you here. Everyone has the power to contribute and everyone stands a chance to win big!

How to participate?

Hacktoberfest is all about encouraging and rewarding open-source contributions while supporting the global community and empowering developers! Participating is really simple.

Here is some information about Hacktoberfest that you may be wondering about.

1. What is Hacktoberfest? Is it an Appsmith-only event?

Hacktoberfest is a global event, it's not an Appsmith-specific event and this year marks the 10th anniversary of this event. Hacktoberfest is DigitalOcean’s annual event that encourages people to contribute to open-source throughout October. Much of modern tech infrastructure—including some of DigitalOcean’s own products and obviously Appsmith—relies on open-source projects built and maintained by passionate people who often don’t have the staff or budgets to do much more than keep the project alive. Hacktoberfest is all about giving back to those projects, sharpening skills, and celebrating all things open-source, especially the people that make open-source so special.

For the past 10 years, thousands of people—coders and non-coders alike—have participated in Hacktoberfest to support the projects they use and love, learn and practice skills that will enhance their careers, and meet new people who love open-source as much as they do.

2. Can you elaborate on the different categories?

Sure, these are the following categories:

  3. Datasources

    • Data Unleashed: Have data? You have a source! Bring your data to life within Appsmith by creating a template for your desired datasources. Whether it's a database, API, or any other data provider, make it accessible and manageable through Appsmith. Empower developers to harness the power of data effortlessly.
