From Idea to Business Model: The Lean Canvas Approach

Lean Canvas is a 1-page business plan template created by Ash Maurya that helps you deconstruct your idea into its key assumptions using 9 basic building blocks

It is adapted from Alex Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas and optimized for Lean Startups.

It's a 1-page plan that only takes less amount of time to fill out. The 9 blocks of Lean Canvas are:

  1. Problem: All customer segments have separate sets of problems that they need to solve.

  2. Solution: The solution block is designed to address the problems of the customer segments.

  3. Key Metrics: Key metrics are the most important numbers that tell you how your business is doing.

  4. Unique Value Proposition: The unique value proposition is the single, clear, compelling message that states why you are different and worth paying attention to.

  5. Unfair Advantage: An unfair advantage is something that cannot be easily copied or bought.

  6. Channels: Channels are how you reach your customers.

  7. Customer Segments: Customer segments are the groups of people or organizations that you are targeting.

  8. Cost Structure: The cost structure is the total cost of running your business.

  9. Revenue Streams: Revenue streams are how your business makes money.

Lean Canvas is used by over a million people that span startups, universities, and large enterprises

It is a strategic document that helps to deconstruct your business idea into key assumptions for better analysis
