Valuable Points Noted from "Timely" a redesign of the New York Times App.
The first thing that caught my attention in this article was the proposal that said "Instead of overhauling the existing NYT app, we will add a subtle and useful feature to that landing page called Timely". What caught my attention was how they noticed the major user pain point and drew out the problem and goal around that not just rush into a whole app redesign. It was a subtle yet highly valuable feature.
The second point I noted was the uniqueness of the design process. I recently read about design thinking and its basic steps and I concluded every work I had to do in UX design, I would have to find a way to make it a one-size-fits-all approach but in this case study by Johny Vino and his team, they found a way to personalize the design process to fit exactly what the goal was.
The third point I noted was the Information hierarchy. Timely was built on a vital aspect of user experience design which is Information Hierarchy. Prioritising and putting out the important information first, instantly gets user's attention and helps them quickly grasp the 'main story' of the article. This approach ensures that the readers get the key information without going through complications and unnecessary details.
I also noted a few other things like the attempts at taking into account the needs of users with disabilities, also known as Inclusive Design and creating a personalized and enjoyable news reading experience. Personalization is key to enhancing user engagement. With Timely, the New York Times app delivers curated articles tailored to users' unique interests and reading habits. By prioritizing critical information, Timely ensures a user-centric experience.
In conclusion, with the introduction of Timely, Johny Vino and his team did something cool with the New York Times app. They added a feature that sends notifications throughout the day to help users stay updated. It was all about Information Hierarchy and personalization making it super user-friendly and engaging. 📰✨
