Secure S3 Bucket Creation and User-Specific Permissions: A Step-by-Step Guide
Introduction :-
#Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is a scalable and #secure #cloud storage solution provided by AWS. With S3, you can create buckets to store and #retrieve data objects, and assign permissions to control access to these buckets. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of creating an S3 bucket and assigning permissions for a specific user.
By leveraging AWS services and #Terraform, an #infrastructure-as-code tool, you can automate the process of creating S3 buckets and defining fine-grained access controls. This #automation ensures consistency, #scalability, and #security in managing your S3 resources.
Step-1 :- Create one Iam user.
Step 1: Click on “Add user” ➡️ Give a name to the user ➡️ Click on “Next” ➡️ Click on “Create user” “A new user will be created. After that, search ‘S3’ on the search bar.”
Step 2: Create one S3 bucket. Click on “Create bucket” ➡️ Give a name for the bucket ➡️ Leave the rest as default ➡️ Click “Create bucket” “A bucket will be created with the name you provided.”
Step 3: Click on the bucket name and navigate to permissions..
on Bucket policy click on Edit option
Click on “Policy Generator,” and you will be redirected to a new window.
Step 4: Navigate to the “User” section and select the IAM user you initially created. Copy the ARN ID from the summary box.
Step 5: Go to the policy generator window and select “S3 bucket policy” from the dropdown box. Paste the ARN ID in the “Principal” box.
Step 6: From the S3 bucket properties, copy the ARN from the bucket overview. Paste it in the #Amazon resource name box. After that, click on “Add statements” and then click on “Generate policy”.
Step 7: Copy the code and paste it in the policy box area, then click on ‘Save Changes’.
“Now we assigned permission for one user in specific S3 bucket.”
Conclusion: -
By following the steps outlined in this guide, you have learned how to leverage #AWS services and Terraform to #automate the creation of an S3 bucket and assign permissions to a specific user. This #automation ensures consistency, repeatability, and #scalability in managing your #storage resources, saving time and effort in #manual provisioning.
Assigning permissions to individual users allows you to control access to your S3 buckets and ensure that only authorized users can interact with the data stored within them. Fine-grained access controls can be defined to #restrict or grant specific actions, such as read, write, or delete, based on your #security requirements.
