Why is <ImNotHackathon> BETA?
We believe that hackathons can be more and produce more than they currently do. Too many hackathons result in technically complete products with no life or vibrant presentations that are absent of strong technical foundations.
We contend that by curating and preparing mixed-talented teams of developers, designers, and marketers to work together under the crucible of the hackathon, products and services with market potential may be born.
We also saw hackathons where teams give their all but fail to receive their due attention because of circumstances beyond their control. While on the other side of the coin, some sponsors are lost in the shuffle of prizes and walk away from their hackathon experience without a meaningful project to brag about.
We feel these experiences are a disservice to hackers and sponsors.
We can do better.
What is <ImNotHackathon> BETA?
<ImNotHackathon> BETA is a collection of developers, artists, marketers, and founders who want to produce a better Hackathon model.
<ImNotHackathon> BETA is a hybrid hackathon that begins with an IRL conference for all, hackers included, followed by a day of team curation and project ideation.
The IRL event is followed by a week of asynchronous remote hacking with an IRL presentation and awards ceremony at the end of the week.
How is <ImNotHackathon> BETA experimenting to make hackathons better?
We're reimagining hackathons as a collaborative experience between multi-talented teams and sponsors. The first day of the event is loaded with IRL keynotes, workshops and events. We want everyone to feel like they can engage with our speakers so hacking doesn't begin until day 2.
The event will be live-streamed into the metaverse in the most dope <ImNotArt> way so that anyone willing can participate in the event. Anyone will be able to watch online and chat with friends. It's going to be very cool and a bit nerdy.
We're also handpicking hackers and assembling them together based on talents and interests. The day of in-person hacking is followed by a week of asynchronous work and culminates in a final day of IRL workshops and community engagement.
