Summing Up JavaScript
Our experience with JavaScript has been thrilling yet demanding, marked by moments of success and difficulty. We initiated our journey by mastering the fundamentals. Then we proceeded into the realm of advanced concepts like call back functions, Async await, promises, etc., leveraging every challenge as a platform for growth. As we shift our focus to React, our well-established JavaScript knowledge will serve as a beacon, illuminating the path toward tackling intricate web development ventures.
Professional Skills Development: Succeeding in Tech Through Mastering Sales Pitch and Negotiation
It's essential to recognize that not everyone needs to be a salesperson, but possessing sales skills is valuable for everyone. In our professional development classes, I discovered the significance of having sales skills. Everyone is, in a way, involved in sales, whether you're selling a service or presenting yourself to potential employers. Your ability to convey your value through your sales skills can greatly impact your chances of getting hired.
During the course, I learned various forms of sales and product pitches, such as social media pitches, elevator pitches, consultative pitches, and product demonstration pitches. I also acquired strategies for delivering each type effectively.
Furthermore, we delved into the art of negotiation, exploring different approaches, steps, and strategies. From principled negotiation to distributive bargaining, we gained valuable insights that transcend the world of coding. Understanding the dynamics of sales pitches and negotiation is proving to be an essential skill that can significantly influence both our professional and personal lives.
Exploring React and the Todo List Project: As we embarked on our respective tracks, I enrolled in the front-end track, diving into the world of React. Our mentor, Coach Ayodele Samuel Adebayo, guided us with live coding sessions, where we revised JavaScript while building a CRUD to-do list app. This assignment acted as a valuable bridge, bridging our familiarity with ES6 JavaScript to the complexities of React. This month was filled with noteworthy events:
1. Alumni Fireside Chat: In the Guest Leaders series, we gained Insights from the Seasoned two TIIDELab alumni @IE_Onyedikachi and @BongshimEdward. Their wisdom on landing their initial jobs, managing work-life equilibrium, and overcoming post-TIIDELab obstacles was not only enlightening but also motivating. The fireside conversation provided a preview of the real-world scenarios we are about to experience.
2. Guest Leaders Series: This program invites industry experts to enlighten us about the real-world developments in our chosen career paths. In this month's session, we had the privilege of hearing from tech business tycoon, Mr. @Lanre Yusuf, the Managing Director of Tech Specialist. He shared valuable insights on "Thriving in the Business of Technology," emphasizing how we can become business founders, not just tech founders, using various business models and canvases. The class was exceptionally informative.
3. Mentorship Classes: My colleague and I had two enlightening sessions under the mentorship of Dr. Bashir. The class was engaging, providing valuable insights on how to excel as a software developer and stressing the importance of personal project development. We also learned how to create a portfolio with a GitHub.io extension and were tasked with building our portfolios, which I have done. You can take a look here. My Portfolio
4. Changing of Coding Partners: One significant event this month was the change in coding partners, driven by differences in our chosen tracks and the desire to explore new perspectives and enhance team-building skills by collaborating with different individuals. My previous partner was Obinna Brian Nnodim , but now I'm working with Ti-Jesu Adeleke and Ahmed Qozeem.
Team Project: BitMedics (Electronic Health Record App) - Saving Lives, Sharing Stories With the expert guidance and supervision of Mr Shams and Mr Kenny, the BitMedics project has evolved beyond being solely a coding project. It's become an expedition marked by teamwork, creative problem-solving, and personal development. I'm thrilled to contribute significantly to our project's progress by crafting user interfaces and integrating them with HTML, Tailwind CSS, and JavaScript features. As we near the finish line, our feeling of achievement continues to flourish.
TIIDELab truly offers an excellent learning environment, thanks to its carefully designed course materials and experienced instructors. I extend my sincere appreciation to our mentors, both internal and external, as well as the instructor coordinators, for their unwavering commitment to nurturing our self-reliance and helping us excel in our chosen career paths.
My penultimate stage journey wouldn't feel whole without me sharing the moments of excellence I experienced, which were when I was recognized as one of the top five performers for the months of September and October. It was both surprising and exhilarating to see that my hard work was being blessed by God, and I could see clear progress in my path toward self-reliance.
As for my project, Bolam Shopping, it's making progress. Stay tuned for a comprehensive preview of the nearly completed project in the upcoming episode.
As we wrap up, I bid you farewell for now, but exciting adventures lie ahead. 👋!
