How to Use Notion as a Student to Stay Organized
Notion is a versatile productivity and organization tool that can be incredibly useful for students. With its flexible databases, wiki-style pages, and powerful integration capabilities, Notion enables students to keep all their schoolwork neatly organized in one place.
Creating a Student Hub
The first step to using Notion as a student is to create a Student Hub. This is essentially your home base that contains different sections and pages to store information related to your studies.
To set up your Student Hub:
Create a blank Notion page and title it "Student Hub"
Add a profile section with your name, major, classes you’re taking, etc. This helps personalize your hub.
Make pages for each class using the /page shortcut. Title them with the course code and name.
Build a section for notes on each class using nested databases. This keeps all notes in one place.
Create pages to track assignments, projects, exams, clubs, and other categories.
Customize and structure your Student Hub however best fits your needs semester-to-semester. It’s flexible to allow changes over time.
Taking Notes and Keeping Track of Assignments
Two key ways students can utilize Notion is to consolidate class notes and assignments in one place.
For taking notes, create nested databases within your class pages. Use page names and tags to organize your notes by date or topic. You can write notes directly in Notion or clip web content using Chrome extensions.
To track assignments:
Make a table database called “Assignments”
Add properties like name, due date, status, submission info, etc.
Fill it out each time an assignment is given
Filter by semester or status to stay on top of the workload
This single system replaces juggling notebooks, Google Docs, random files, and more.
Collaborating with Other Students
If allowed by your teacher, you can collaborate with classmates on projects and studying by sharing pages or entire Notion workspaces.
To collaborate:
Click “Share” and add emails to invite others to a workspace
Enable editing abilities or keep certain people’s access read-only
Use comments and messaging features to coordinate with your team
You’ll stay aligned through shared workspaces without endless group texts or email chains.
Additional Tips for Students
Here are some additional great ways for students to incorporate Notion:
Build a semester dashboard to view due dates and your schedule
Make kanban boards to visualize project progress
Use embeds and integrations like Google Calendar or Excel tables
Create flashcard decks to study more effectively
Plan schedules, goals, and habits in a daily planner template
The possibilities are endless for using Notion as your central academic hub. Implement any of the strategies above to level up your student organization game. Structure it in a way that suits your personal learning and studying style.
Over time, Notion enables you to accumulate knowledge and enhance productivity as a student. With your systems set up, maintaining focus on academics and achieving success comes easier than ever.
