Web 5.0 : A Glimpse into the Future of the Web
Web5 represents a decentralized version of the internet, enabling users to personally store their information and have the authority to revoke access whenever desired. This operates as a peer-to-peer system, utilizing the Bitcoin blockchain infrastructure. Web5 is detached from any base blockchain network and operates completely through decentralized web nodes. With Web5, users can store and manage access to personal information on their own terms.
Web 5.0 aims to be a fully decentralized and emotionally intelligent web platform that gives users back control over their digital identity and data. However, there are still many unknowns and doubts around the viability and usefulness of web 5.0.
Pillars of web 5
Decentralized Identifier (DID)
To achieve truly decentralized , we need a unique identifier that is self-generated and self-owned, acting as a universal digital signature enabling identity authentication and routing. This unique identifier serves as decentralized identifiers that users own and control. It provides access and allows a user to seamlessly interact with decentralized applications .
Decentralized Identifiers(DIDs) are a W3C standard. They have a standardized structure that essentially links to you and your information. DID is a simple text string consisting of three parts: 1) the did
URI scheme identifier, 2) the identifier for the DID method, and 3) the DID method-specific identifier.
Verifiable Credentials
Verifiable Credentials, an officially approved W3C standard, that collaborate with Decentralized Identifiers to enable trustless interactions. Verifiable credentials emerge as a solution to enhance trust and security in digital identity management.
Decentralized Web Nodes (DWNs)
Decentralized Web Nodes (DWNs) enables us to separate our data from the applications we utilize. Instead, we can host our data independently in our personal data stores.
Your web nodes can be hosted anywhere (your phone, computer, etc) and can replicate them across your devices and clouds and all data will be synced.
Identity Wallets
Identity wallets are user interfaces that will allow users to access and manage their identity.
Identity wallet provide access for overseeing and managing data stored in decentralized web nodes, decentralized IDs and their relevant contexts for usage, verifiable credentials, and authorizations.
Decentralized Web Apps
Decentralized Web Applications operates with a Decentralized Web Node (DWN), so they can be launched without a server since data are stored on DWNs.
Using web 5, you can build decentralized web applications (DWAs). This allows you to concentrate on building apps that offer exceptional user experiences while DWNs handle data storage.
Important Features Of Web 5.0
Web 5.0's features include control over identity, data ownership, and a free-flowing environment for creators to develop decentralized applications.
Note:
- Compared to previous versions of the internet, Web 5.0 promotes complete decentralization and transparency, while ensuring complete control of user data remains with the user.
