Learnings from JumiaFood Case Studies
Reading about the Product Experience Design Review of JumiaFood Mobile App made me understand the several UX issues that make it difficult for users to order food quickly and easily.
Key Learnings:
Prioritize user needs and minimize distractions: Users want to order food quickly and easily, so minimize distractions and unnecessary options.
Utilize effective categorization and filtering: Categorize restaurants in a way that makes sense to users and provide clear filtering options to help them find what they're looking for.
Design for intuitive interactions: Use standard navigation patterns and make it easy for users to interact with the app, especially on mobile devices.
Consider real-world user expectations: Understand how users think about ordering food and design the app to align with their expectations.
Provide timely feedback and keep users informed: Keep users updated on the status of their order and give them options to communicate with the delivery personnel.
Specific Design Recommendations:
Redesign the Cuisine/Restaurant Browsing Experience:
Remove unnecessary options and distractions.
Categorize restaurants in a way that makes sense to users.
Utilize effective filtering options.
Redesign information architecture and visual content.
Apply standard fixed bottom navigation.
Redesign the Food Ordering Experience:
Change the layout from a closed menu to an open-list menu with vertical scrolling.
Create a 'Create your own Bowl/Plate' option for meal personalization.
Use labeled icons and terminology that is familiar to users.
Redesign the Order Delivery Experience:
Implement live tracking of delivery personnel.
Provide a 'Call Delivery Personnel' feature.
Provide a 'Message Delivery Personnel' feature.
Create a 'Pickup' option for users to pick up their orders at the restaurant.
These learnings and design recommendations can be applied to improve the overall UX of JumiaFood and other food delivery apps, making them more user-friendly and enjoyable to use.
