A beginner journey to Cloud computing.
Where I started...
So many times, I have sat in front of this screen, contemplating how to commence this blog. What would be considered professional and what might be frowned upon? Nevertheless, here I am. I have a feeling this blog will be longer than I anticipated for an introduction, but I've realized lately that I thrive in telling stories. Here is the story of how I made a quantum leap from my career in finance to cloud computing. I might share mini-stories within the main narrative, but I'll try not to deviate too much.
To put into perspective I have a background in Economics and Finance from the University and a professional course as certified and financial analyst still ongoing but I had a conviction that my love for problem solving and an insatiable appetite for curiosity would find its home in the dynamic world of cloud technology.
So coming from a non traditional tech world I asked my friend google what is the best route to the familiarize myself with cloud computing and a day of research I had three main points that cemented my journey:
According to Mckinsey the potential value of cloud computing will be around $3 trillion dollars by 2025.
Amazon web services is the global leader in cloud technology and offers unparalleled advantages in information available to entrants from non technical background through documentation, lab activities and a gaming experience where you get to work on implementing solutions.
I needed no prerequisites to start but sheer grit to work through hours of learning and experimenting.
Where I am now...
After a day of research, I had armed myself with enough information on what was needed to join this fast growing industry. I just needed a plan and a schedule to start on the journey.
The decision on which cloud infrastructure to start on was already settled with AWS having a well detailed journey for me, I would start with certified cloud practitioner that validates foundational knowledge of AWS Cloud and terminology and recommended for Non-IT background and other business roles then take an associate level AWS Certification. The decision on which associate certification was to be determined later but I was sure I had to accomplish both.
It's been three months, and sometimes it feels longer since I started my journey to seek my certification, but I am now a Certified Cloud Practitioner (CCP) and on my secondary journey to acquire my Solutions Architect Associate certification. The associate certification choice was easy for me to make, since the foundational CCP introduced me to designing, developing, and managing cloud infrastructure and assets. The more I dug deeper into this, the more I had a feeling this route would help me validate my knowledge of AWS Cloud Computing and showcase my skills, confidence, and credibility to build my cloud career.
This blog will delve more into this secondary journey and what I have accomplished so far. I hope it serves as an inspiration for all those starting on this journey and as an exploration of what AWS has to offer and how to better implement solutions. I will be sticking to AWS best practices, and since this is a learning journey, I am open to learning from the community too.
