The #DxMentorship is a three (3) months long program that will equip you with the necessary tools and expertise to becoming a #devrel. Now that we have a basic understanding of what the program is all about, let's dive into our topic.

Knowing about the program

If you follow me on social media, you will see that I am very much interested in anything #devrel and, on my journey I became friends with like-minded people. It all started on WhatsApp a while ago when a friend of mine who also got into the program shared the like to the program's website. Just by looking at the organizers, I immediately applied and I am so grateful I got in. Putting it here to remind myself how important it is to be friends with like-minded people.

What I think got me into the program

  1. The interest

I am really looking forward to break into #devrel therefore I create the network I need in order to achieve my goal. My social media platforms tell you how passionate I am when it comes to #devrel topics and also, I created a community that gathers people who are interested in breaking into tech. It may sound weird but you need to at least be interested in order to apply to a such a program.

  2. Luck

This factor is very important. They crossed 200 applications for this cohort and I was selected, and I only got two years of experience. So I think I really got lucky.

  3. Perseverance

I do not get congratulatory emails most of the time but it never stopped me from applying. I learned that I was the only one to change my current situation even though the job market looks crazy besides even though #devrel roles implies that we get technical most of the time, this program accepts beginners. I encourage everybody to apply.

My goals for the program

  1. Master my existing skills

As a developer and a community lead, I am looking forward to creating more content. More blog posts, YouTube videos and building a robust developer advocate portfolio.

  2. Building an exceptional network

Being part of this program alone already got me to hangout with amazing folks, I will do my best to add more people to my circle.

  3. Helping others

The program is beginner friendly so I will do my best to always be there for those who need me. I hope my two years of experience will help someone.

  4. Learning from the best

The mentors we will be having for this cohort are who I like to call "the stars" in tech. I feel blessed and I am grateful and excited to be learning from them.

  5. Getting a job

I hope to get the necessary visibility through this program. The tech world is going through a recession like never before but looking at the efforts put in place by the organizers, I remain hopeful.

That's it, that's the end of the beginning of this journey and the first article of a series where you will know all about my journey during this program. If that's something you are interested in, stay tuned.
