Advanced Robots by Google DeepMind for Performing Daily Activities

Google DeepMind has recently announced a breakthrough suite of research advances. These are designed to empower robots to make decisions faster and better understand their environments.

The key challenges addressed are:

1️⃣ Generalizing behavior to novel situations.

2️⃣ Boosting decision-making speed.

Imagine a world where robots can adapt to new situations just like humans do!

One of the key innovations is SARA-RT. This converts Robotics Transformer models into more efficient versions using a method called "up-training."

The benefits? Reduced computational requirements for on-robot deployment, increased speed, and preserved quality.

But that's not all.

The RT-Trajectory model is a game-changer. It learns to follow instructions by adding visual outlines that describe robot motions to its training.

Picture this - a dataset of videos overlaid with a 2D trajectory sketch of the robot arm’s gripper as it performs the task.

How do you see these advancements impacting our daily lives?

Intel launches GenAI, a new enterprise-oriented software company

Intel, is now taking a major step into AI-powered enterprise software. They're spinning out a new platform company, Articul8 AI, backed by the asset manager and investor, DigitalBridge. 🌐

Articul8 AI is not just a new entity. It's the result of a successful proof-of-concept from an early collaboration between Intel and Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The aim? To create an AI system that can read text and images, addressing BCG's stringent security requirements. 🔒

This system was developed within Intel over two years and fine-tuned for BCG's specific needs. Initially, BCG was the sole supplier and customer of the system. But Intel hasn't stopped there. 📈

Over the past few months, Intel has been scaling the platform. It's optimized for Intel hardware but supports alternatives too. The goal is to cater to industries like financial services, aerospace, semiconductors, and telecommunications that require high levels of security and specialized domain knowledge. 🛡️

Qualcomm's upcoming XR chip offers 4.3K resolution for each eye

Qualcomm's upcoming XR chip offers 4.3K resolution for each eye

🔥Hot off the press! Qualcomm is set to revolutionize the XR platform with its next-gen chip, offering an unprecedented 4.3K resolution per eye. 🎉

Just ahead of CES, Qualcomm announced the launch of its new Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform. Imagine experiencing a 4.3K resolution at 90 frames per second - it's a game-changer for AR/VR/XR enthusiasts. 🤯

What's more? The new system-on-a-chip boasts a 2.5x GPU performance increase and 8x better AI performance, setting new industry standards. 🚀

Remember the Meta/Ray-Ban smart glasses? They were powered by Qualcomm's AR chips, showcasing the company's prowess in this space. The new XR2+ Gen 2 is now the flagship of the series, outperforming the existing non-plus XR2 Gen 2.

Qualcomm is not stopping there. They're keeping the existing chips in production, showing their commitment to providing a variety of options to meet different needs.

Microsoft Plans to Integrate Copilot Key into Computer Keyboards

Windows Keyboard with Copilot

🔓 Unlocking the future of AI on Windows. Exciting, right?

Microsoft, together with its power-packed partners like AMD and Intel, is envisioning a future where AI inferencing is offloaded onto local silicon. The objective? To unlock an entirely new realm of AI experiences on the Windows PC. 💻

Microsoft, never one for overstating, sees this as a revolutionary moment in their journey with Windows. And guess what? Copilot is set to be the gateway into this world of AI on the PC. 🚀

But what about your old keyboards? No worries. They will continue to function just as they always have. If your keyboard allows, you can even remap your right Control key to function like the Copilot key. Or you can choose to ignore it all. Your call. 🎹

Perplexity AI's Valuation Reaches $520M after Raising $70M

Perplexity AI, a rising star in the realm of GenAI startups, has just announced a whopping $70M funding round.

Led by IVP with significant investments from NEA, Databricks Ventures, and industry leaders like Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke, ex-GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, and Vercel founder Guillermo Rauch, this round is a major boost for Perplexity.

Even tech giant Nvidia and none other than Jeff Bezos himself were part of this round. 🚀

What's truly impressive is the post-money valuation of Perplexity - a cool $520M. And to think that this startup has only been around since August 2022!

Founded by a team of engineers with diverse backgrounds - Aravind Srinivas, Denis Yarats, Johnny Ho, and Andy Konwinski, Perplexity is making waves in the AI sector.

Srinivas, the CEO, is an OpenAI alumnus, where he worked on cutting-edge GenAI models like Stable Diffusion and DALL-E 3.

It's clear that Perplexity is one to watch in the AI space. Their rapid growth and the faith shown by investors is a testament to the potential of AI and GenAI startups.
