Installing Tesseract on Windows involves a few steps, but it's quite straightforward.
1. Download Tesseract Executable:
First, you need to download the Tesseract executable file for Windows. You can find the installer on the Tesseract at UB Mannheim. This page offers a Windows installer created and maintained by the University of Mannheim, Germany.
2. Run the Installer:
Once the executable file is downloaded:
Double-click on it to start the installation process.
Follow the on-screen instructions. It's recommended to choose the option to add Tesseract to the system PATH, as this makes it easier to run Tesseract from the command line.
Select the components you wish to install. For most users, the default components are sufficient.
3. Language Data Files:
During installation, you'll have the option to select additional language data files. Make sure to select the languages you need for OCR. English is included by default.
4. Confirm Installation:
To confirm that Tesseract has been installed correctly:
Open Command Prompt (cmd).
Type
tesseract -v
ortesseract --version
and press Enter. This should display the version of Tesseract installed on your system.
