Installing Tesseract on Windows involves a few steps, but it's quite straightforward.

1. Download Tesseract Executable:

First, you need to download the Tesseract executable file for Windows. You can find the installer on the Tesseract at UB Mannheim. This page offers a Windows installer created and maintained by the University of Mannheim, Germany.

2. Run the Installer:

Once the executable file is downloaded:

  • Double-click on it to start the installation process.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions. It's recommended to choose the option to add Tesseract to the system PATH, as this makes it easier to run Tesseract from the command line.

  • Select the components you wish to install. For most users, the default components are sufficient.

3. Language Data Files:

During installation, you'll have the option to select additional language data files. Make sure to select the languages you need for OCR. English is included by default.

4. Confirm Installation:

To confirm that Tesseract has been installed correctly:

  • Open Command Prompt (cmd).

  • Type tesseract -v or tesseract --version and press Enter. This should display the version of Tesseract installed on your system.
