Reasons why I built MyanmarGPT-Chat?
As a tech enthusiast deeply immersed in the industry, the transformative capabilities of ChatGPT have become an indispensable tool for my daily endeavors. However, the stark reality for non-native English speakers, particularly those using the Burmese language, is a glaring gap in the utility of these powerful language models.
The Disheartening State of Burmese Language Support
Despite the promises and potential, one year after the release of ChatGPT, the Burmese language remains overlooked. A language that is deeply rooted in the daily lives of many faces an unfortunate lack of support, especially in a nation like Myanmar, which is grappling with the turmoil of civil war.
Challenges of Low Resources and Isolation
Myanmar stands as a solitary figure on the global stage, facing not only internal strife but also the scarcity of resources for its native language. In this era of advanced AI, the potential advantages that GPT technologies bring seem elusive to those conversing in Burmese, perpetuating a sense of isolation.
Taking Matters into My Own Hands
Motivated by the pressing need for inclusivity in the AI landscape, I took it upon myself to address this issue. Recognizing the void in support for Burmese, I embarked on a journey to build a GPT model that caters specifically to the linguistic nuances of the Burmese language.
The Birth of MyanmarGPT
Last year, I introduced MyanmarGPT, a text-generation model tailored to the unique characteristics of the Burmese language. Since its inception, a global community of researchers, hobbyists, and developers have come together to fine-tune the model, making strides in giving the Burmese language the attention it deserves.
Expanding Capabilities with MyanmarGPT-Chat:
While MyanmarGPT proved to be a significant step forward, the absence of interactive question-answering and chatting features remained a gap. Determined to bridge this void, I introduced a new model - MyanmarGPT-Chat. This model, an extension of MyanmarGPT, is designed to offer a more interactive and engaging experience for users seeking question-answering capabilities in the Burmese language.
Empowering Users with Knowledge:
MyanmarGPT-Chat is not just a linguistic tool but a knowledge repository. Trained on a dataset titled "A Brief History of the World in the Burmese Language," it can aptly respond to queries about world countries and history. The model aims to empower users with information, making it a valuable asset for both researchers and developers working on projects related to the Burmese language.
Learning Resources for MyanmarGPT-Chat:
To facilitate the utilization of MyanmarGPT-Chat, I have compiled learning resources that guide users in running the model in the Burmese language. These resources, available on platforms like Kaggle and Hugging Face, serve as comprehensive guides for those eager to explore the potential of MyanmarGPT-Chat.
A Contribution to the Burmese Language:
In the face of adversity, particularly during these challenging times of civil unrest in Myanmar, I believe that MyanmarGPT-Chat stands as a testament to the positive impact technology can have on native languages. It is my sincere hope that this endeavor contributes meaningfully to the preservation and advancement of the Burmese language, offering a ray of hope amid the turmoil.
