Envisioning the Future of My Tech Career
This is the story of my journey so far as a self-taught programmer, navigating my way in the tech industry. As an Outreachy Intern with Mozilla, I've been immersed in the world of frontend and backend development for Balrog, the Firefox Update Service. Now, I'm eager to transition into a full-time role or a self-employed contractor position as a Software Engineer, specializing in Back-End, Full-Stack, or Front-End development.
Here's a snapshot of my current skill set:
Programming Skills: Front-end development, Back-end development, Full-Stack development, Database development, Web scraping
Administrative Skills: Continuous process improvement, Detail-oriented
Technical Tools: JavaScript, Python, Docker, React, Redux, Flask, Django, Express, HTML, CSS, Tailwind, Material UI, SQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Sequelize, SQLAlchemy, Mocha, Pytest, Jest, Node, Git, Github, Linux, Ubuntu, Bash, Figma, Puppeteer, BeautifulSoup
Non-technical Tools: Notion, Slack, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zulip
But wait, there's more!
I'm also keen on expanding my knowledge by learning TypeScript, Next, Non-relational databases such as MongoDB, and delving deeper into intermediate to advanced computer science fundamentals. I'm also intrigued by the fields of Cloud Engineering, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering, and I'm considering pursuing a Master's Degree in Computer Science.
My experiences as a Quantity Surveyor, Data Entry Specialist, Customer Service Specialist, and Virtual Assistant have equipped me with valuable skills in Communication, Problem-solving, Collaboration, Research, Project Management, and Client relations. I'm comfortable working remotely, hybrid, or on-site in Nairobi, Kenya.
What sets me apart is my unique background and experiences. My fluency in Kiswahili and English, combined with my remote work experience, provides a unique blend of cross-cultural communication skills and familiarity with remote work environments. This multicultural perspective can be beneficial in international teams, where clear and efficient communication across different time zones is crucial.
As a quick learner with a particular interest in music, mental health, multimedia, and construction, I aim to contribute to software in any domain. My personal interests shape my problem-solving approach, creativity, and empathy, leading to innovative solutions and user-centered designs. Furthermore, my commitment to continuous learning keeps me updated with the latest trends and technologies, enabling me to contribute effectively to a team even in rapidly evolving tech environments.
In conclusion, I'm seeking a full-time job or a self-employed contractor position as a Software Engineer. I'm open to working remotely, hybrid, or on-site in Nairobi, Kenya, and I'm ready to start work after the end of my remote 3-month internship from the 25th of March 2024.
