How to use the MT4 scripts and shortcuts
MT4 scripts and shortcuts can help streamline your trading activities and perform various tasks more efficiently. Here's how you can use MT4 scripts and shortcuts:
Using Scripts:
Locate the Scripts Folder: Open your MT4 platform and navigate to the "File" menu. Click on "Open Data Folder" to open the directory where your MT4 files are stored. Within the Data Folder, locate the "MQL4" folder and then open the "Scripts" folder.
Copy or Install Scripts: Copy or install the desired script files into the Scripts folder. These script files typically have the extension ".ex4" or ".mq4".
Attach Scripts to Charts: To execute a script, open the desired chart in MT4. To attach a script to the chart, drag and drop the script file from the "Navigator" window onto the chart. Alternatively, right-click on the chart, select "Insert," and choose the script from the list.
Adjust Script Parameters: Some scripts may have configurable parameters that allow you to customize their behavior. Once attached to the chart, you can modify these parameters by right-clicking on the chart, selecting "Expert Advisors," and then choosing "Properties."
Execute the Script: To execute the script, ensure that the "AutoTrading" button on the toolbar is enabled. Click the "Play" button in the toolbar, or right-click on the chart and select "Execute on Chart" or "Execute on Every Tick" if available. The script will then perform its predefined action.
Using Shortcuts:
Familiarize Yourself with Default Shortcuts: MT4 has several default keyboard shortcuts that perform various functions. Some common shortcuts include F8 to open the "Properties" window, F9 to open the "New Order" window, and Ctrl+T to open the "Terminal" window.
Customize Shortcuts: You can also customize shortcuts to suit your preferences. To do this, click on the "Tools" menu, select "Options," and choose the "Keyboard" tab. From there, you can assign or modify keyboard shortcuts for specific functions or actions.
Save Chart Templates: If you frequently use specific chart setups or indicators, you can save them as templates and assign shortcuts to quickly apply them to any chart. To save a chart template, right-click on the chart, select "Template," and choose "Save Template." Assign a shortcut to the template by going to "Tools," selecting "Options," and clicking on the "Charts" tab.
Utilize Shortcut Expert Advisors: MT4 allows you to create custom Expert Advisors (EAs) that execute specific actions or functions based on predefined rules. You can program EAs to perform actions such as closing all trades, modifying orders, or executing specific strategies. Once created, you can assign shortcuts to these EAs for quick execution.
Test and Practice: After assigning shortcuts or using scripts, it's important to test them in a demo account or with small position sizes to ensure they function as intended. Practice using the shortcuts and scripts to become familiar with their features and functionality.
By using MT4 scripts and shortcuts, you can streamline your trading workflow, automate repetitive tasks, and execute actions more efficiently. However, exercise caution when using scripts and shortcuts, and always verify their functionality and impact before using them in live trading.
