A beginner’s View

The first thing that came to my mind the first time i heard IP address is “interpersonal address” I mean you can’t blame me I thought since we were in cybersecurity class everything must be about Security which must be personal- beginner’s mindset.

My little quota to the community. To start with, what is an IP address ? Well, it’s simply means Internet Procotol address. For proper comprehension we can also likened it to rules and regulations to abide by before we can communicate or send message and receive from one device to another. One thing you should always have in mind is every devices have an IP address.

The very distinct feature about an IP address is that it comes with it’s own number I mean we are familiar with IP address to some extent because it’s basically in all of our devices, from phones to laptop, desktops and all.

Anytime you see a number like this 192.168.1.204 the first thing that should come to your mind is ohh this is an IP address, IP address also have a BFF (best friends forever) that they work hand in hand for good conveyance of information and this is called subnet mask and default gateway. What does subnet mask do and how does it look ? Subnet mask basically tells you the exact address of where the information is going and it’s usually in this form 255.255.255.0. Subnet mask is always paired with an IP address because it’s used to identify the network section and the host section, the network section doesn’t change it’s like a constant K but the host section change based on the device assigned to it but it must always be between 0-255. For example you share the same surname with your siblings, it’s your own name that makes your surname unique. Let’s say your surname is the network and your name is the host. Let’s move to the next friend which is defaults gateway/ router 192.168.1.1. Default gateway is the loud friend among the pairs because immediately she’s around or available she makes her presence known to the whole vicinity. When a router is available it send a signal to every devices “ohhh I’m available” “look at me” such an attention seeker and this default gateway or router gives every devices their IP address. And not to forget Network layer is responsible for an IP address. When you look at the numbers you will notice that each section is separated by a dot, each of this separate entity is called the octet.
