Java VS JavaScript : What is the difference?
Java and JavaScript are the two most popular programming languages in software development. Although their names are so close to each other, they possess completely different functionalities and features. Understanding the differences between Java and JavaScript is part of the diverse landscape of programming languages. These two languages have emerged to play a key role in modern technology; hence, they have different features, ecosystems, and use cases that apply to software development in several regards. This is basically a comparison to bring out the basic differences between Java and JavaScript, shedding light on their strong points, weak points, and what the applications are in the programming world, which is ever-changing.
Difference between Java and JavaScript
Java is a general-purpose programming language used to build applications across other platforms. JavaScript is a scripted language for web development that enables the building of interactive and dynamic web applications. They both are programming languages that have different syntaxes as well as ecosystems. Also, Java developers and JavaScript developers have a different role and responsibilities.
Let's dive deep into the differences between Java and JavaScript:
1.Environments Execution
Typically, Java code is compiled into bytecode that runs on the Java Virtual Machine and is independent from the operating system.
JavaScript is run on a web browser server but also can run on the server side using NodeJs.
2. Syntax
Java is a class-based object-oriented programming language containing loops, functions, data types, and many more.
JavaScript, on the other hand, is dynamically typed and supports both object-oriented and functional programming.
3. Application
Java is used to build a wide range of large applications, desktop and mobile apps, web applications, backends, and more.
JavaScript is used for making interactive websites and increasing the dynamic behavior of web pages.
4. Ecosystem
Java has several tools, libraries, and frameworks for different purposes.
The JavaScript ecosystem is focused on web development that includes libraries and frameworks like React, VueJs and Angular for frontend development and NodeJS, NextJS, and ExpressJS for backend development.
5. Performance
Java works on the server side, so its performance is too fast compared to JavaScript.
JavaScript, on the other hand, uses NodeJS for the server side. But its performance has rapidly increased over the years. Both of the performances are different in different use cases.
In summary, it is evident that Java and JavaScript are two different languages used for different purposes in the context of software development. The former is used to build applications that can handle the enterprise level, hence quite fit, while the latter somehow dominates web development. Understanding these differences is part of what is essential for effective programming choices.
