Android 15 Developer Preview 1: Everything you need to know
The Android 15 Developer Preview is a pre-release version of the Android operating system that is made available to developers and enthusiasts to test and provide feedback on new features and improvements.
Starting with the name of course it’s officially called Android 15 but Internally google developers are following the desert name trend and have code named it Vanilla ice cream. You can even find the name within the settings in About Phone section and within the quick Settings panel.

Some of the highlights of Android 15 Developer Preview include:
Notification Cool Down
The Notification Cool Down is a new feature that aims to reduce notification fatigue by allowing users to cool down the Notification. When active, it will gradually lower the volume of alert sound you hear when getting back-to-back notifications. Initially, the volume will play at a normal frequency and will progressively get quieter as pours in. After about a minute of no notifications, volume will return to normal.
You can even choose to apply it to just your conversation or all your notifications.
Keyboard Vibration Disable Button
Within the Vibration and Haptics menu of the settings there is now a new option at the very bottom called keyboard vibration and this will essentially disable the keyboard haptics no matter what keyboard you use, even if you have a keyboard app that, for whatever reason, doesn’t let you disable the keyboard vibration this OS setting will let you do it.
Expand the Bluetooth Tile
Just like in the Android 14 QPR 2 release, Android 15, let you to expand the Bluetooth tile and quickly switch between your paired devices without needing to jump into the settings.
Show HDR SDR Ratio
This one is mostly for developers, but within the developers setting there is now a new setting called the show HDR/SDR ratio. As the name clearly states, it shows you the ratio between HDR and SDR composition for any photos when they are zoom. it will show the ration on top right of the screen.
Privacy Security Sandbox
Android 15 Includes the latest version of the privacy security sandbox. includes this was introduced in Android 13 as a method to overhaul the way apps send advertisements to you, relying less on third party data collection and more on apis that share your interest in the on a broader level. Basically it’s storing your interest on the device without saving specific browsing history and AD companies can opt in to advertise to you based on that data.
Health Connect
Android 15 Includes the latest version of the Health Connect. It was introduced in Android 14 as a way to unify all of your app data from most fitness apps, With the newest version now including a new suit of fitness and nutrition matrix.
Screen Recording with Update
Android 15 also provides screen recording on a per-app basis as a feature.
Haptic Brightness Slider
Now there is haptic feedback when using the brightness slider from the quick settings menu.
There are now going to be more developer options with third party apps when it comes to camera hardware and their algorithms. And the last And wide change is to do with the way apis interacts with the android. In android 15 Google will be offering an update to existing performance framework that will let games and other performance intensive app interact directly with the power and thermal systems of android devices part of that includes a new power efficiency mode which gives the ability to adjust GPU and CPU frequencies together to best meet workload demands and thermal headroom threshold that should allow for less thermal throttling in apps using the framework.
If you take a look at the timeline publish by Google, it looks like the next developer preview should be sometime in March and the BETA Version coming between April and July with a final release undetermined, but maybe in September or October we can get it.
