Devin AI - What I think as a ENTRY LEVEL CODER?

So, Cognition labs announced their product, devin.ai
few days back. Everyone on the internet is giving in their opinion on what might change in near future and many are scared, especially I would say freshers and new developers are scared of losing job or not getting a job or maybe thinking there might be no career as a developer in future.
Today, here I want to write a few points on what my final conclusion on this topic is and what is best route for people like me. So read this article if you have around or under 2 years of experience and scared of current scenario.
Who am I?
Let's start up with a very quick general introduction. I am a entry level web developer who has been working for a year now. If I had to rate myself in tech I use, I would rank myself as:
Tech | Rating out of 10 |
HTML | 8 (idk why am I even mentioning HTML) |
CSS | 7 |
Tailwind | 9 |
JS | 4 |
React | 3.5 |
Next | 2 |
Poor, right?
Yeah, I know many will not even consider reading this story after the above ranking because why the hell does the opinion of a noob even matter? Being in the industry for a year and is this best I could achieve? I have asked this to myself many times these past few days. But regretting on the work I did not put into is pointless at this time. The growth of AI tools and LLMs are going exponentially high and if we stayed like this then we are doomed to fail even more.
Why am I scared?
I asked this many time to myself and now I know the reason. Because I am not confident in my skills. Yes, if I was confident that I am the best among all the freshers or best in the tech I use among other developers with similar experience. Unfortunately I can't say it. That's why my mind is consoling itself by being scared.
I am not scared of devin. I am scared of the hard work ahead.
Yes, I am scared of pushing past my limits and being my best. I am scared of the fact that I will have to work my butt off if before having any chance to stay in this career path.
Why to stay? Is there future?
All this said, is there future as a developer?
YES! Big YES.
There comes many hype trend in every field once in a while. For eg: hype of self driving cars.
Few years back blockchain and crypto had so much hype that people even said real money is going to vanish soon. There were many new cryptocurrencies made and marketed. After all every one is here is to earn money. Same is here with this hype trend. Yes AI is evolving and might overtake us, it is a possibility still, but also remember how many dev wannabes are going to get filtered due to this hype. Only those with real interest and passion in developing might remain.
What's next?
If you are like me, I mean skills wise, it's time to level up and get real serious. Do you really have interest of building a career in this field? If your answer is yes then you are going to have to put in the work.
I am currently a undergrad student and have still a solid 1.5 years before I graduate. So I am gonna work very hard on myself and my skills. The game plan is to strengthen my basics and keep building stuffs.
Whatever phase of life you are in, try to leave the habits that is hindering you from getting better and do whatever you can to upgrade yourself.
At last...
This is not a motivational blog. I'm trying to tell myself and maybe you, that nothing is going to take away our career in development if we are ready to put in the effort required.
Let's push past our limits and show the AI it's status in front of a determined human being. Connect with me here: https://www.rijanshrestha.com.np/.
