🤖 Apple plans AI features in iOS 18
Apple has announced that the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 will take place from June 10 to 14. It is an in-person event, so developers and students will have the chance to attend the event at Apple Park on opening day.
Rumors say that iOS 18 will be the biggest update to the iPhone's software so far, mainly because of its focus on AI. AI will be a central part of WWDC this year. Apple's marketing boss Greg Joswiak says that the event will be "Absolutely Incredible".
In the last weeks, multiple sources have reported that Apple plans to collaborate with a partner, maybe Google, to power some of the new AI features in iOS 18. There have also been discussions between Apple and companies like Baidu and OpenAI about potential partnerships.
Our thoughts
We think that iOS 18 will have numerous AI features. Yet, it's still uncertain how deeply Apple will engage in strategic partnerships with companies like Google.
In addition, Apple focuses on using AI directly on devices to protect user data, meaning they aim to minimize cloud-based processing as much as possible. We also believe that the new A18 chip will have significantly more power for on-device AI applications.
In our opinion, Apple is a leading player in the responsible application of AI.

🎬 A Partnership between OpenAI and Hollywood?
Reports indicate that OpenAI is introducing its AI video generation tool Sora to the entertainment industry in Hollywood. Some studios seem to be open to using the tool in production. OpenAI unveiled the tool Sora in February. It can create realistic videos up to a minute based on user prompts.
Last year, actors and writers went on strike against studios due to fears that AI could replace many jobs. Filmmaker Tyler Perry also fears the impact of AI on the entertainment industry and has stopped the planned expansion of one of his production studios because of Sora.
The video generation Sora tool is very powerful. You should watch some of the demo videos on the website of OpenAI if you haven't already done so.
Our thoughts
In our view, AI will change the working landscape faster than any other technology. The entertainment industry will change completely in the next 5-10 years. AI will be able to create parts of films and later complete films. AI can save money and time in the production of films. AI movies will be more economical.

💬 Chatbot Grok soon available for all X premium subscribers
Elon Musk announced on X that xAI's chatbot, Grok, will soon be available to all X premium subscribers (not just premium+). Grok is based on the LLM (Large Language Model) Grok-1, which xAI recently made available as open-source. It is a Mixture-of-Experts model, meaning that only parts of the model are active at a given time.
In addition, xAI announced Grok-1.5. It comes with a context length of 128,000 tokens and improved reasoning capabilities. Grok-1.5 will soon be available to early testers and current Grok users on the X platform.
Our thoughts
According to the benchmark results from xAI, Grok-1.5 is on a level with GPT-4. Learn more in the blog post of xAI.

In addition, a partnership with Midjourney could push Grok to the forefront of chatbots. In a post, Elon Musk mentioned that "Grok-2 should surpass current AI in all metrics. In training now". xAI could become a top player in the AI race. It's still exciting!
