  1. Hacktoberfest: Hacktoberfest is DigitalOcean’s annual event that encourages people to contribute to open source throughout October. Much of modern tech infrastructure—including some of DigitalOcean’s own products—relies on open-source projects built and maintained by passionate people who often don’t have the staff or budgets to do much more than keep the project alive. Hacktoberfest is all about giving back to those projects, sharpening skills, and celebrating all things open source, especially the people that make open source so special.

  2. Google Summer Of Code(GSOC): During Google Summer of Code, participating contributors are paired with mentors from open source organizations, gaining exposure to real-world software development techniques. Contributors will learn from experienced open source developers while writing code for real-world projects! A small stipend is provided as an incentive.

Participating organizations use the program to identify and bring in new, excited developers. Many of those new developers will continue to contribute to their new communities and open source long after GSoC is over.

  3. MLH Fellowship: The MLH Fellowship is a 12-week internship alternative for aspiring technologists. These programs pair a fun, educational curriculum with practical experience that you can immediately put on your resume. It's collaborative, remote, and happens under the guidance of expert mentors.

The program is divided into tracks that align with the different career interests that Fellows have.

  4. Google Season of Docs: Google Season of Docs is a program by Google where technical writers and open-source organizations work on open-source projects. The technical writers write documentation for open-source organizations and also get paid by Google. It is a worthwhile platform for students to learn from industry experts and to work on open-source projects. Also, it would be best if you remembered that you must be aged 18 or older at the time of registration to become eligible for Google Season of Docs.

  5. Outreachy: Outreachy provides internships in open source and open science. Outreachy provides internships to people subject to systemic bias and impacted by underrepresentation in the technical industry where they are living.

  6. Season of KDE: The KDE community hosts an outreach initiative called Season of KDE, which is open to everyone worldwide. With the Season of KDE initiative, you may give to KDE, a worldwide community for free software developers that creates open-source and free software. In addition to adding new features, the Season of KDE program participants are in charge of creating the KDE Continuous Integration System, porting KDE applications, creating documentation, and doing a number of other tasks. Additionally, it shares certain similarities with Google Summer of Code, another esteemed program.
