Once, at a meetup about public speaking, the organizer emphasized a lesson: focus on the message you want to deliver and the fact that you can't go wrong having delivered it, even if you would suddenly disappear after that.

For me, it helps to build a story in my head, using story mapping. But how to make sure that you really care about the message and its delivery? Well, for me it's key that the topic is the right choice and comes across as authentic.

Often we find ourselves in a broader theme like corporate events, where the theme is predetermined, but we still choose a topic that is close to our heart. So focus on the message you want to deliver, depict a story in your head and finally have a conversation with people you care about.
