A Complete Game Redesign
The Update
Having faith in your game concept from the start is an essential ingredient in creating a successful game. Discussions involving myself and the rest of my game development team led us to quickly realise that our initial concept of the 'Attack on Time' game was not heading in the direction we had planned. Therefore after some brainstorming and planning, we have come up with a fabulous new game - Post Wars!
The New Concept
Post Wars is a fast action paced game where players compete against each other to deliver as many parcels as possible before the time runs out. It is set in a busy urban environment with up to 4 players battling it out.
In order to ensure that our game is balanced, players will be able to drive to houses however must complete deliveries on foot. However this is slower than driving around so time management is key. Here's a rough guideline of player abilities when on foot and driving.
Stealing parcels in this game is encouraged! By colliding with other player vehicles parcels can be dropped from vehicles. Players will also be able to upgrade their vehicles with money earned from deliveries and purchase powerups. Making deliveries will also increase the players time limit, allowing them a higher chance of winning. Our game will also include NPCs such as guard dogs. Be careful! Delivering to these houses too quickly will result in being chased by the dogs!
Here's a quick sketch (a piece of artwork) I drew up whilst we brainstormed our ideas.
Conclusion
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post. This new game concept has provided me with the ability to consider many different programming solutions to some of the challenges we may face such as collisions with other players and stealing parcels.
Although the idea is fresh, this game concept is something our group is looking forwards to working on together. In fact, I am greatly looking forwards to developing this game as it is loosely based on my own part time job!
