Following my previous post about compressing PDF files the easy way in a Linux terminal, here’s an alternative for those who prefer a graphical user interface (GUI) to compress PDF files in Linux! This is a GTK+ application written in Python. It might also be worth mentioning that this was all developed with Atom running on Ubuntu Linux 17.10/18.04.

You can find out more here:

Densify - GUI PDF Compressor

This small utility application is sponsored by the new Open Source Initiative(OSI) at 3DF, an initiative recently launched for the purpose of its team’s pure interests and self-learning which in turn can hopefully contribute to the greater open source community and create opportunities to collaborate with others in solving practical challenges for IT professionals and tech enthusiasts. Other than providing infrastructure and venue to host this platform/initiative, perhaps it might also be worth noting that as part of this initiative, all 3DF partners and staff can choose to allocate 10% of their paid work time to work on OSI projects; a concept derived but deviating slightly from Google and the likes.

All work done by 3DF’s OSI will be shared with the world for free with a flexible MIT license. The plan for 3DF’s OSI is to start small with something like the above PDF utility and then grow to work on bigger projects in the future! Stay tuned!
