I’m Marcus Biel, a Java developer who transitioned into entrepreneurship. My programming journey began with a deep fascination for computer science, and Java was the first language I chose to learn. Despite my professors' reassurances that the starting language didn't matter, I was committed to mastering Java. Even after 15 years, I felt I hadn't fully mastered it, but by the age of 35, I felt a strong urge to start my own business.
My first entrepreneurial venture was an info product designed to teach Java skills. This course, which is still available on YouTube, has grown to nearly 10,000 subscribers and amassed over 3.5 million views on freeCodeCamp. To promote my course effectively, I built a presence on social media, especially Twitter. My efforts paid off, connecting me with other prominent Java developers and leading to invitations to speak at various events.
Over time, I established myself as a well-known Java freelancer, gaining over 25,000 followers on Twitter. To maintain contact with my growing audience, I started a newsletter, which now has over 17,000 subscribers. However, I found existing email marketing tools like Mailchimp to be overly complex and expensive, prompting me to create my own solution.
This need led to the creation of Maildroppa, an email marketing SaaS. What started as a simple tool for my personal use evolved into a comprehensive email marketing and automation platform aimed at solo founders and small businesses. My goal was to make it powerful yet user-friendly and affordable.
Today, Maildroppa helps numerous businesses streamline their email marketing efforts. Our platform offers robust features while remaining easy to use and cost-effective. It's been a rewarding journey, turning a personal need into a solution that empowers other entrepreneurs.
