Power of Consistent learning and mentoring - my Tech Journey
"Tell me and I forget.Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I will learn."
-Benjamin Franklin
Back in 2019, when I had just completed my graduation, what excited me the most was having a job offer handy. I had a job offer which I got during campus placement interview. I started my IT career in June 2019. Kudos to me , its been 5 years.
I would like to rewind my tech journey. To be frank during my college days I haven't done anything out of the box rather than my studies based on syllabus. When I joined my first company i was initially trained in Java. But I didn't get a project in Java stream at that time. I landed up into a project in different stream.
Being a fresher, I was very excited in my 1st project. I was interested to learn new things and try out myself. My project stream was not that technical, but my young mind was satisfied with that. I was blessed to have good mentors within my circle who helped me to realize my potential and guided me on the importance of learning new technologies. One of my mentor advised me to start learning cloud - that made all the difference!!!
I started learning AWS. Along with my work, I started investing time on studies. By 2020 end, I was able to clear AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification and I was slowly making my baby steps in cloud. Self learning and certification alone didn't took me further. I started looking for good opportunities internally and by January 2021 I got selected in a project that matched my cloud interests.
That transition marked a new beginning in my career. Along with AWS cloud, I got in to the world of containerization and DevOps tools.Consistent learning is a key for growth in career. Whenever I'm introduced to a new technology or a work what excites me is that what is the new thing that I can learn from it.
As part of my daily tasks, I could never expect that all the technologies in it full fledge i will get opportunity to work. But I always I believed that even if its a small task I could find something new to learn that day that enhances my knowledge. Another thing I learned is that troubleshooting and debugging is the best guide to learning new things. I have encountered several issues at my work which need hours of debugging to get into the most apt resolution, but at the end of the day when you reach the final outcome, by that time I might have tried multiple things and understood why it didn't worked.
I continued my self learning and attended several trainings on DevOps tools and got many opportunities to implement them in my work. Apart from AWS I got chance to explore on Azure and do POCs on GCP. I was mostly into AWS and I did my associate certification in AWS. Now when I complete 5 years, I have many more goals in my mind and strong vision to be successful in my career.
When I rewind, I realize the power of mentoring that I had in my very early days of career, that made me what I'm now. At present when I get any freshers to be trained I always remember to tell about the magic of consistent learning. I believe we grow by sharing knowledge and learning from others.
To Summarize, I had a blissful 5 years of career, where I was to able to take a transition to cloud . I learned from my mistakes and utilized all the opportunities I got. To someone reading this - its always good to do something rather than to do nothing.Every single effort counts!
