The secret to overcame social anxiety before a presentation
One pattern I’ve noticed in all socially anxious software engineers , They hate work presentations
Case Study: Our Social Anxiety :
One pattern I’ve noticed in all socially anxious software engineers
They hate work presentations
Here’s a psychological hack I learnt from a hypnotherapist to reduce anxiety & feel confident under social pressure:
It’s Friday 4:50 PM, last meeting of the week
Your boss drops the bad news; ‘’Prepare presentations for Monday’’
Immediately… adrenaline shoots through your veins Heart starts racing
Even ‘the after work’ vodkas can’t shake it…
“you thought that software engineers just write code”
You’re still up at 2am
Overthinking
Visualizing your colleagues laughing at you
The weekend is ruined However this thread might save you:
On My first oral presentation when i was a junior developer, I spoke to hypnotherapists & coaches. (I was afraid to possibly be shunned and ridiculed by others.
They both gave me this super simple mental hack to trick my brain into staying calm.
Cheat Sheet To Overcame Social Anxiety:
Ready for it?
Play music.
‘’is that it?’’
No.
I picked one song and listened to it every day on morning after meditation couldn’t believe the results…
My mind associated this particular song with being focused, locked in & peace. The subconscious mind works in patterns. Use this to your advantage.
I did this every day for 4 weeks .
The result?
I Hacked My Brain
How does this apply your social anxiety?
Well…It’s basically the same.
Im a programmer like you , we have the same routine .
So :
1. Pick a song
2. Listen to it for 10–15 mins every time you need to ‘perform’ socially:
client call
meetings
events
work presentation
3. Every time it goes well > listen to it another 10/15min after
This will condition your mind to enter the ‘social mood’ on demand and skip the anxiety & overthinking.
The best part?
It’s in your pocket at all times.
