ISC2 CC Exam: My Experience and Good Study Resources I Used

I asked a friend to mentor me regarding some decisions I had to make in my career, as he finished his Master’s degree and is about to start his doctorate. We started with the basics: my résumé. After reading it and talking to me, he told me something that would change the path I would follow: “You have no certifications, yet!”.

That hit me hard, as I did not realize that certifications are a basic requirement for career growth, especially in Cybersecurity. Most of my junior and mid-level/intermediate colleagues have no certifications either. Then, I started to study Cybersecurity certifications, their prices, types, and details and found ISC2 and their Certified in Cybersecurity certification.

It was a fair beginning for a first certification, as they are a solid institution, responsible for the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), one of the most respected certifications in Cybersecurity. Their initiative to provide the ISC2 CC for free is incredible.

They provide the training for their certification, which is well-produced, with lots of information, examples, resources, and everything a student will need consistently. But digging for more information about the exam itself, I discovered YouTubers with informative content. All of those I liked the most, due to their work, were unanimous about the questions in the training material: the exam itself is much deeper.

Well, they were right, and I felt that taking it for granted would be my ruin. I dug for more information on Udemy and YouTube and found two gold mines:

UDEMY

  • "Pass your ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) Exam on the first attempt!" - 600 questions

  • "Master the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity 2024 (CC) Domains and pass on the first attempt!" - 600 questions

Both from Paulo Carreira & Andree Miranda.

YOUTUBE

I did 900 questions from the Paulo Carreira & Andree Miranda Udemy course, and all the practice questions from Mr. Nair, where I learned how to apply all my study and how to think as an examiner would, to provide an intelligent exam.

In fact, without these two resources, I believe I wouldn’t have been able to pass on the first attempt. As I said before, the study material is great, but it provides you with the core to move on in your study, and you should not only rely on it—as a good Cybersecurity candidate should do and think.

To sum it up, I can say that if you follow the training from ISC2 (taking it seriously), and use sources such as the Udemy courses above and Professor Prabh Nair classes, you will be fine, and will also make it on your first attempt.

This will help you with more confidence to move on to the next Cybersecurity certifications (CompTIA+, CCNA, and others), and will allow you to feel how the exams are applied.
