HNG Internship Program

HNG stands for Hotels.ng Internship and it was established in the year 2016 to provide a learning and collaboration ground for tech enthusiasts. Initially starting out with a software development track, the program has evolved over the years to cover 10 tracks as of June 2024: Back End Development [C#, Golang, PHP, Python, NodeJS], Devops Engineering, Front End Development, Mobile Development, Product Design, Video Editing/Digital Marketing, Product Testing, Data Analysis, Product Management, and DevOps.

If you are looking to break into the tech industry or already into tech and want to sharpen your skills, the HNG Internship is a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow, and network with like-minded individuals. It is a remote learning program that runs for 8 weeks and involves working on real-world projects, collaborating with other interns, and learning from some of the best in the industry.

My Personal Experience

I had the pleasure of participating in HNG 7.0 in the front end web development track. At that time, I was a newbie with basic HTML and very basic CSS skills. I didn't know anything else. However, through the program, I ended up leading the frontend developers for my team. I learned how to collaborate with UI/UX designers, backend developers, and DevOps engineers. It was a fun learning process until I had to leave due to PC issues. I learned and started teaching others how to work with Git and GitHub among other things. But most of all, I learned how to collaborate and build my tech career from there.

Now, I am joining HNG 11 as a video editor in the video marketing track. I hope to get better in my skill, collaborate with others, and build a great network.

One thing I have learnt is that HNG Internship is not just about learning to code or design or work on your tech stack, it helps you inculcate time management, prioritization, and most importantly, COLLABORATION. You cannot survive the program working on your own.

Like I mentioned earlier, I joined HNG 7 with zero idea of anything in tech aside basic HTML and CSS. Yet, I made it to the second-to-last stage in the program, held leadership roles, learnt and taught others and I only had to leave due to lack of PC to continue working with.

So, you can join at any learning level depending on how ambitious you are, but keep it in mind that HNG doesn't provide training classes or tutoring; you learn and get better as you work on projects. Many graduates have gone on to achieve great things in their careers; from landing jobs at top tech companies to starting their own successful startups.
