Between Data and Psychology
My Current State on Social Media
I recently posted an introductory article on LinkedIn. I am not the typical user who thinks LinkedIn and other social media are great. I call these social media (with obvious irony) "antisocial networks." I prefer to observe from afar, from the back row, as I did in the classroom. My experience in diverse fields, such as geriatrics, AI ethics, and psychology, has given me a unique perspective on the dynamics of this social network. Frankly, I prefer to use the network rather than be used by it.
Beyond the LinkedIn Theater
I often ask myself if authenticity can be found on LinkedIn. It often seems that people are obsessed with their resumes and the constant search for approval from others. I prefer to distance myself from this "theater" and focus on what really matters: my projects, "my four cats" (I am interested in people, but in moderation), and my own personal growth.
The Dark Side of Positive Psychology
During the pandemic, as a psychologist in a nursing home, I witnessed suffering and loss up close. This experience made me even more critical of so-called "positive psychology," which seems to ignore the complexities of life and promote a superficial, unrealistic happiness.
Manipulation in the Digital Age
I am also concerned about the manipulation seen on LinkedIn and other social networks, especially towards vulnerable people. I believe it is important to cultivate critical thinking to avoid falling into the traps of gurus and scammers.
My Small Contribution to a Better World
Despite my critical views, I do not give up. I believe that my knowledge and analytical skills can be useful to others. Therefore, I am committed to sharing my thoughts on this blog, LinkedIn, and other social media, and to counteracting as much as possible the negativity I find on these social media.
