My Experience Creating a Personal Website Using HTML at TIIDELab
Hey there, tech enthusiasts! This is my first article on Hashnode, and I'm thrilled to share my learning journey as I recently joined the Tidelab Cohort 6 pre-Fellowship Program. I'm super excited to dive in and learn with all of you!
Let's uncover the secret behind the internet's magic: HTML! It's the backbone of every website, and understanding its basics can help you build a functional website.
HTML 101
Think of HTML like a blueprint for your website. It's made up of different tags that help structure and present your content in a way that's easy for web browsers to understand.
Tags, Tags, Everywhere!
HTML tags are like labels that help identify different parts of your website. You've got your semantic tags, which provide meaning and context, and your non-semantic tags, which are more like, well, empty labels.
Some common tags you should know include:
<html>
: The ultimate wrapper tag that says, "Hey, I'm an HTML document!"<head>
: Where you store metadata, like the title of your webpage and other behind-the-scenes information.<body>
: This contains your website's content and structure.
Building Blocks
You've also got your text and structural elements, like headings (<h1>
to <h6>
), paragraphs (<p>
), and sections (<section>
). These help you organize your content and make it look pretty.
Semantic Superpowers
But here's the cool part: semantic HTML tags can give your website superpowers! They help search engines and screen readers understand your content better, making it more accessible and SEO-friendly.
Some semantic tags to try out include:
<article>
: For independent pieces of content, like blog posts or news articles.<aside>
: For tangential content, like sidebars or footnotes.
Building a Better Website
Ayodele Samuel Adebayo also known as UncleBigBay was our guide to the world of HTML, teaching us everything we need to know. With his vast experience as a tutor and developer, he made learning HTML a breeze!
Here you have it! With HTML, you can create a website that's not only visually appealing but also functional and accessible. By using semantic tags and structuring your content correctly, you can enhance your website's usability and search engine optimisation.
HTML might seem intimidating at first, but with a little practice and patience, you can unlock its secrets and build a strong online foundation.
My experience at TIIDELab has been great so far, and I can't wait to unlock every stage's treasure. Happy coding!
